Estimating death
Have a look in the Downloads, Queries section on this forum. There is a query which helps to determine living relatives and you can then use the result to set the living flag. Alternativley, use Res Privata (I think it's on the download area here, if not message me and I can let you have a copy). Yo...

To upgrade or not?
I too share the concerns about the Project feature of V4, and it's the main reason (by a long way) that I'm holding off on upgrading until I can understand it in more detail. I already have my files organised in the way I want, so that I can find them quickly, if for example I want to send a copy of...

V4 nbsp;- upside down text
Jane and Cathy,
I do assure you that I wasn't laughing at Cathy, or at anyone else, I can imagine the frustration after having been waiting for V4. I think I'll wait a few more weeks yet.
It's just the idea of upside down text that tickled me.
Apologies if any offence caused.

Oh I'm sorry, but I found this one just soooo funny

upside down text! I had to check it wasn't posted on the 1st April.
Just imagine the ribbing the developer will be getting from his mates! I'm sure it will get fixed soon.

Convert a report file (not FH)
Thanks for all the replies, I've played about with the Word find/replace function, and set bookmarks at strategic places, so have managed to make it a bit easier to use. As a background task I'll now just work through it comparing and extracting info as needed. Richard - thanks for your kind offer, ...

Pre 1841 Census
The Dorset OPC web site has an 1811 census for Whitchurch Canonicorum, in which I've found what might be some ancestors of mine. I only stumbled across this census by accident. http://www.opcdorset.com/WhCanonicorumFiles/1811WhCanonicorum.htm Does anyone know anything about these earlier local censu...

IGI Batch Numbers - Hugh Wallis
Does anyone know if there's a more up to date version of this method of searching IGI? http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#Page I've found it really useful, but it is a few years old now (last updated 2002) and there have been many more records added to I...

Missing GRO Birth Entry?
Firstly, apologies that this is a rather specific request, but I'm struggling with this one and someone here might have bumped into this sort of problem before. I have an entry for an Arthur Frederick Miller in the Ancestry Christening records, giving his birth as 30 Oct 1895 and christening as 17 N...

What I have done for this is to create a new flag (I called it Tenuous), and then add this flag to individuals that I'm uncertain about in some way, sometimes with a note reminding me why. I've also created a version of the all relatives diagram which shows this flag as a yellow ? on a red backgroun...

IGI record - some advice?
Yup, after a while I did come to realise that about IGI. Funny that familysearch's IGI allows you to specify a search on death/burial though! I did try the burial index on findmy past and came up with a blank, but it seems their records are far from complete. Think I'm going to have to add this one ...

Marilyn, The multimedia image will be linked to the source for the census event, not to the individual themselves. If you open the properties window for the individual, then click in the Events tab, you will see a list of events. Select one of the census events, open the Source Pane (click the scrol...

IGI record - some advice?
Searching the IGI on familysearch website for the birth of an Elizabeth Raymond. I have her marriage to Henry Hicks on 12 Sept 1723 in Ardeley, Hertfordshire. IGI shows 'two' possible entries (both extracted from source records rather than member submitted): ELIZABETA RAYMENT, b 9/4/1701, c 16/4/170...

Report from Flag Check
Nick, What I'm asking for is is only indirectly related to the way GCC uses flags. If, as a result of the flag check, GCC is going to delete flags from my ged file I'd at least like to be able to get a list of what it's going to delete before deciding to proceed. Even being able to copy and paste te...

Report from Flag Check
Not quite Gerry. When I first find a person or family in the census I first enter the information into a 'timeline' spreadsheet for that family (or group of families). At that stage I may add the peoples names to FH, or they may already be there, either way I set the census xx flag. I've found this ...

Report from Flag Check
Nick, As I understand it the flag check reports where there are flags set in the FH ged file for which there is no census event recorded. If I click OK I assumed that it would simply remove the flags from the ged file, which is not what I want. Do tell me if it does something cleverer than this! I w...

Is there any way of getting a report from the flag check utility in GCC? I've added census flags manually in FH, so the check program throws up lots of 'errors', but now I want to do a catch up on adding the census events via GCC. It would be great if I could get a text file or printed report to wor...

How about using Res Privata to create a new (temporary) GED file, with the dates for living people truncated to just year, then opening it in FH to produce reports and diagrams.
Not sure what Res Privata can or cannot do with place names and photos, but might be worth an experiment.

Tree - sticking A4 sheets together
Just thought I'd add to this...
Phoned around a couple of local printing shops (eg Prontaprint) and for an A1 colour print (I have photos in the diagram) they want about £40 each [eek]
Worth a nice bottle of Scotch for my neighbours friend if he can do it for me!

Tree - sticking A4 sheets together
Thanks to all for the suggestions, it's given me something to think about. I did do a google for print services and found a few places where you could send a file and they'd print it, but prices were £30 upwards for a single A0 sheet. A neighbour has a friend who has an A1 size printer, so maybe a b...
