Re: Upgrade to Win 10 and FH support
@davidm_uk Can you do individual file restores from within File Explorer with Macrium Free please? I got the impression it didn't do Item Level Recovery unless you purchased the Home Edition, or is the difference with Home you can just backup files and folders rather than the whole image? If its th...

Re: Upgrade to Win 10 and FH support
@NickiP Be sure to check out the differences between the free and paid for versions of Macrium Reflect, I've found that I can do everything I want with the free version (create rescue CD, save and restore images, file backups and restore), and the paid for versions start at £48 for a single license...

Re: Upgrade to Win 10 and FH support
I had Classic Shell on both my Win7 Pro and my wife's W7 PCs. I updated both to the latest release (4.5.2c) before upgrading both PCs to W10, and they worked just fine, although I did have to tweak a few settings in Classic Shell to get back to the way I like my menus. I hated all those Apps plaster...

Re: Upgrade to Win 10 and FH support
I use the free version of Macrium Reflect http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx and have found that it works very reliably. You should also use it to create a rescue disk (CD or usb drive) that you can boot your PC from should your OS get really broken such that it won't even load. That rescue dis...

Re: Flagging Individuals as Private in Reports
Maybe create a copy of your project (or just the GEDCOM if you don't have any media files in the report that you want to create), then in that copy add all the private individuals to a named list, then use that named list to delete them. Then create your report from that copy project/gedcom.

Assuming it's as per your diagram, with no children for that spouse, just select the box on the diagram for the individual you want to delete, press the Delete key on your keyboard, click the " delete data records for selected boxes " button, OK , on the Confirm tab that displays check the I underst...

Re: Records saved in AS but not appearing in FH
I've had similar problems in the past and worked around it by only entering one item (census, birth etc) into AS, saving it, switching to view FH, wait for it to show the message about the Gedcom being changed, click to reload the data into FH, then go back to AS and click to reload there. Then ente...

Re: Windows 10 upgrade questions
I use sleep mode quite a lot, and had previously set my W7 system up so that it would only wake up by briefly pressing the power button. After W10 upgrade it seemed to wake itself up within a minute or so, for no apparent reason. Found the solution to that one here: http://superuser.com/questions/97...

Re: Computer crash--again
So did you have your FH data files on that SSD (C: drive)?
If the SSD crashed maybe the data was corrupted, and that was what your geek "cloned" (seems a strange thing to do in my thinking).
No backups of your data files on another disk or USB stick or cloud then?

Re: how to see all convicts in tree
Have a look at this post 13847|List of individual record persons and their dates and the referenced KB article. Modify your Individual Records List to add a field to display your convict flag, check that it works, then save as a new query. You can then modify that query to show just the columns and ...

Re: Records List - Places & Keyboard Shortcuts
If you want to make your own keyboard shortcuts then have a look at AutoHotKey https://autohotkey.com/
You can start simply just by recording keystrokes. Then, if you want, look at the script that's generated and see how you can program it to do all sorts of things.

Re: Saving on usb
Do you mean that you want to keep your project on USB (stick or disk?), or do you want your backups to be saved there. The latter is a much better way to go, as you can then have your live project on your laptop plus a full backup on USB, so one failure won't cause the loss of everything. With your ...

Yes you can change the Default Backup Folder or just select the USB "drive" when you run the backup and it asks you where to save it to (the default is shown but you can select a different place from that screen). Just beware that, depending what else you might plug in to USB ports, the drive letter...

Re: Create Separate FH Project File For Spouse's Family
This must be a not uncommon requirement! I'm not conversant enough with expressions but I wonder if it might be possible to write a custom report (or even a plugin) that for a specified individual would list all of the people "in their tree", including all relatives of non blood relatives, but perha...

Re: Working With External File Links
If you do try the Auto Repair Links make sure that you take a backup of at least your GEDCOM file (but if I were doing it I'd make a full project backup). You might find that the auto repair does things that you didn't expect and may have to correct. Auto Repair Links help text says: This button wil...

Ah yes, after experimenting with the FH Sample Projec...

Re: Exclude citations from reports unless assessed as Primar
bbbbut..... I thought that the original requirement was about keeping reports tidy, where there were multiple citations for a particular Fact, and only wanted to show the "primary" one in the report (and maybe a given citation might be the "primary" one for some Facts/Individuals, but only "secondar...

Re: Trying to send copy of FH Project to a friend.
I guess the first question is how big is that folder with your whole project inside it? If it's much bigger than 10Mb your (or your friend's) email might not accept it. Does your email program tell you how big it is? If not, use Windows Explorer , find the folder, right click on it and on the drop d...
