Re: Exporting part of my Project
Alternatively display a diagram which includes all of the individuals that you want, select those individuals (with judicious use of the Ctrl key you can select multiple groups by just "drawing" a box around the group, and also add individuals to the selection) then via Edit....Add to Named List... ...

Re: New computer and upgrading from Version 5.0.11 to Version 6
I "think" that the settings are common to all projects for the same user account on a PC, but some might be different if you have more than one user account. Assuming that all our your projects are under your user login account then you only need to save them once, but maybe best to wait for Mike to...

Having installed the plugin you then run it from within FH. So open FH with your project then Menu....Tools....Plugins then select that plugin from the list and click Run at bottom left of the Plugins window. Follow the instructions. Don't forget to open the Options tab and set where you want the ba...

Modifying a GEDCOM with Word is not a good idea . Even as a text (.txt) file Word has been known to add extraneous information into the file when you save it, possibly making it invalid as a GEDCOM. Use a text editor such as Windows Notepad, or if you want more advanced search and replace functions ...

Hi Bill,
Many thanks for uploading all of this. I've now downloaded all of the items and will take a close look to see if/how I can use or adapt this to achieve what I want for an Ancestry upload.
Best Wishes, David

Yes indeed, keep it all in one project. It was mainly because of that, that I discovered that my son and his wife shared the same ancestors 6 and 5 generations back respectively. Quite a shock all round that was!

@Bill,
When you have finally got this working to your satisfaction I'll be really interested to see your process description. It sounds like a total nightmare to achieve what one would imagine to be a simple result.

Re: New user please help
I think that many (or even most) Family Historian (FH) users on here keep their master tree on their computer with FH, and then every so often export it to Ancestry to take advantage of the Hints features on there. FH is much more versatile in terms of the data that can be recorded, the way that dat...

Could you use the Change Any Fact Tag plugin to change those to regular Birth Facts? Maybe experiment of a copy of your project to see the results.

Re: Custom icons
I find that the easiest way is to take a copy of one of the standard FH icon .bmp files (C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Icons ), open it with a picture editor and modify it to suit. You can use the Paint program that comes with Windows, or an editor of your own choice, and best to keep a...

Could that filename have caused the overall path length limit in Windows to have been exceeded? I can't remember what the limit is, but I'm sure that someone will know? What happens if you just replace the name (and extension) of the offending file to something very short (just as a test)? I say rep...

Or just use a photo editing program to create a cropped version of the certificate image (or a generic image to represent a certificate - after all, it's not going to be legible on the diagram anyway). There are free programs around that will let you do simple things like that. Of course you can sti...

Related to FamilySearch the following two website may be of use if you want to search all of the entries in a particular batch, the batch being a type of record (eg. baptism, marriage), for a particular place (eg. parish, village) and for a given period (eg. 1833-1886). http://www.archersoftware.co....

Is there any way of lifting that filter in FH? So the default situation is to have the complete list? Just to the right of the filter boxes is a button called Clear , just click that and the filter is removed. If necessary then click the Individual Records column heading to resort the list by surna...
