Re: Map Window - Place Problem

Nope, adding the 'e' makes no difference, and the structure (ie comma placement) is consistent with all of my other places. Have tried closing and restarting FH, make no difference. Also tried removing the hyphens (shown as Layer de la Haye in Google Maps), still have the '?'. Btw, I have auto geoco...

Map Window - Place Problem

In my Map Window I have one place with a ? on the left where all of the other places have a tick box. I can't find a way to correct it, there aren't any obvious problems with the Place name itself.
Any ideas?

Re: Computer update

John,
As I understand it, you cannot use the free trial to then upgrade it to a full version. If you haven't got the original installation file that I mentioned in my previous post, you will need to contact whoever you purchased it from, as explained by Lorna.

Re: Computer update

The file that installs the v5 to v6 upgrade is called " upgrade_fh5_to_6.0.0_dl.exe ", and when you run that file it should ask you for your v5 and v6 registration keys. It will then, by default, install the FH program on your C: drive. Also , to run that file, you should right click on it and selec...

Re: Computer update

I have Win10 and all of my programs installed on C: (an SSD) and it takes up just under 91Gb. There is virtually no data stored on C:, and Windows and programs ran noticeably faster with them on an SSD. All of my data (including FH Projects) is stored on D: (a 1Tb hard drive), then backups are made ...

Re: Merge two large family trees into one project?

Nancy, You might want to take a look at this post 14980|Advice re Merging Projects where Mike gave me some useful advice about merging projects. I've just about completed my task now, largely following that advice, but doing it in smaller chunks and doing some of the "merging" by transcribing data f...

Re: Computer update

As per Mike's advice above, see here https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?i ... e_settings and do a Full Project Backup from within FH, this will backup all of the media files (provided you have stored them within the project media folder).

Re: Computer update

Everything you need should be in the FHUG Knowledge Base here: https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:reinstall_family_historian and then follow the links on that page. Make sure that you also backup all of your FH and AS settings as well. When you install FH and AS on the new system do it ...

Re: Out of memory warnings with 2 projects open

Since I've got an SSD as my C: drive and there's plenty of spare space, I have set my max page file size at 32Gb (double what it was) and will see if that helps. I'll report back on the results. I've seen some reports saying that this problem is a "feature" of W10 upgrades, which will/may go away wi...

Out of memory warnings with 2 projects open

In the last couple of weeks I've been using two copies of FH open at the same time, to compare two projects containing some duplicate branches of individuals that I am gradually merging into one tree. Each has an All Relatives diagram open for the part of the tree containing the duplicate people so ...

Re: Check for Unlinked Media Plugin

Ah yes, I see. I'd always used the Windows Explorer...View...Options...Change folder and search options...View tab for changing either the current folder or all folders.

Your suggestion allows more flexibility for changing views within folders.

Thanks :)

Re: Check for Unlinked Media Plugin

Yes Mike, you're correct. Normally my files are configured to display details, whereas I'd set the media folder (and sub folders) to display large thumbnails. I've always done this, but just never noticed the desktop.ini file being picked up by the Check for Unlinked Media Plugin. Maybe the plugin c...

Check for Unlinked Media Plugin

I don't remember seeing this before, but it's been a while since I used this plugin. It now detects and lists the desktop.ini files in some of my media folders (I have the media organised into sub folders under the project's main media folder). This happens whether I have "Hide Protected Operating S...

Is this any help: how_to:using_flags_and_icons_and_expressions|> Using Flags and Icons and Expressions or try typing flags into the search box at the top of that page. Advice re Merging Projects

I have two projects which I have created using FH, one for myself and wife with around 3500 individuals, and one for my daughter-in-law with about 800 individuals. There is another connection between the two trees a few generations back - my son's great(x3) grandparents turned out to be my d-i-l's g...

I then stayed on the FMP web page and manually cleared the cookie, which they call 'Livesession'. Re: Backup files

Win10 does seem to have a habit of losing or changing file associations. I regularly have to reset the association for .jpg files to be my preferred picture viewer (ACDSee Viewer) rather than the default W10 viewer, and W10 continually loses my preferred setting for .gif files. Similar problems with...

Re: Rotating Pictures

I don't have the latest version of Iranview, but I don't see a way of using it to do an automatic batch rotation of files in the way that jpgautorotate does, either with it's native rotation tool or the lossless rotation plugin.
jpgautorotate does claim to do lossless rotation.

Re: Rotating Pictures

jpgautorotate works well for me, it has an advantage that you can apply it to a whole folder (and subfolders) and it will work out which photos to rotate. I use it as soon as I've downloaded a copy of the photos from my camera and BEFORE I do any editing on them - I find that this works best (I use ...

Mike,
Is Clean Living Persons Version 1.2.9 Date 03 Mar 2017 the latest version? Are both of the plugins from this thread likely to find their way into the Plugin Store?

I certainly hope to use it, and will give it a try once the development has settled down. I'm sure that with all of the options I'll be able to make use of ...
