Re: FH 6.2.5 crashing problem

I notice the files are in the GoogleDrive folder, could this be related to the problems that user bp158 was having a few days ago, with the googledrive client locking files. Maybe the googledrive client has been updated recently and doing something it didn't previously do. Edit  Just noticed Mi...

Re: Autosave and saving

I use OneDrive for my cloud backups, but to circumvent these sort of "file lock" problems I use a third party file sync/copy tool (SyncBackSE) to automatically copy my "live" files to the OneDrive folder on the PC, then the OneDrive app on the PC uses these to sync to the Cloud. As SyncBackSE is cop...

Re: GRO certificates

I've just found and downloaded a PDF cert that I ordered a few days ago, and had received no email from GRO (and it wasn't in spam either, or deleted by filters). Edit I did get an email from "col.admin@gro.gsi.gov.uk" saying " Your order has been successfully sent to GRO for processing. Please find...

The Calico Pie website states: "The Software must not be installed on more than one computer terminal at any one time, except that you may install it onto 2 computers (and no more than 2) if both computers are owned and kept by you, and no more than one person ever uses the software at any one time....

Re: Family Law

Strictly speaking Birth and Birth Registration are two different facts and in the early days of registration could be months (or even a year or more) apart. They are often in different places as well - the actual place of birth, and the registration district. I have several instances of a child bein...

Re: Changing a person's name and father link

In case you haven't already come across it the GRO (General Register Office) website https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ enables you to search the official birth (1837 to 1916) and death (1837 to 1957) registrations, and for births you can optionally include the mother's maiden surname in the search...

Re: Changing File Names

Yes OK, might be a few days, bit tied up with other things at the moment.
I haven't looked to see what the plugin does in the way of error checking (eg. if there's already a file with the new name), but all I'm intending to do is modify it to leave off the prefix (eg. O123_) .

Thanks, I'll have a tinker with the plugin.

I always have the same "title" for source record, media record and filename. Helps me find things easily.

Re: Certificate Reading help please

In the days of those epidemics, specially in larger towns/cities, the dead were often buried in communal graves, and perhaps the burial date recorded was actually when the body was collected from where they died (along with many other bodies being collected at the same time). Many of the relatives o...

Are there any other records "on the same page" that you could compare the handwriting with?

The INI only does the couple of things at the moment so start on a person and select Focus (FocusWin) or Record Window (RecordWin).
That was quick, works a treat.
Thanks Jane

Yes, very neat :) Is there an alternative for "Window=FocusWin" to open just the individual properties window (floating)? I never use the focus window. I'm quite happy to copy and modify the desktop cmd file rather than start complicating the plugin. I'm sure that others will ask for all sorts of va...

Re: Adding census dates day and month

Simples....put a Notepad file on your desktop with the dates in there (add to it if you find some earlier local census returns):

1841 - 7th June
1851 - 30th March
1861 - 7th April
1871 - 2nd April
1881 - 3rd April
1891 - 5th April
1901 - 31st March
1911 - 2nd April
1939 - 29 September

In any process where you are going to delete information, surely it's safer that the default is set to not delete, and you have to make a conscious choice to change it to delete.

Re: unexpected Media deluge

I don't know why it happened, but you could use the Check for Unlinked Media plugin ( http://www.family-historian.co.uk/pluginstore/plugin-entry?id=272 ), which optionally give you the option to delete any unlinked media files in that project. I always run the Check option first, just to make sure t...

Re: Merging 2 trees -

I've recently merged my tree (me+spouse) with my daughter-in-law's tree, with the complication that they had common ancestors a few generations back, so quite a lot of overlap. A lot depends on how much overlap you have between your two trees. If it's only one person (or can be made to be only one p...

Re: Out of memory warnings with 2 projects open

Indeed I did Mike, thanks for the reminder. Increasing the max page file size to 32Gb did allow me to use two instances of FH (with diagrams open in both) for a much longer time, but still a couple of times after extended sessions (4 hours or so) the out of memory warning appeared again. I used Sysi...

What's the Mother's Name?

Can anyone take a stab at deciphering the mothers forename for William Walker (entry 1111) in this baptism record. I know what Ancestry thinks it is, but it's not consistent with the birth certificate I've just bought (the father's name, and 1 Bell Alley residence does appear on both documents). Wil...

I use a flag for this, then assign a distinctive icon to display on diagrams. You can also add a column to the Individual Records window to display this flag and then sort on that column (just click on that column heading, or alt click to reverse the sort order). And of course you can also use the s...

Re: How do I attach a photo to a specific fact?

What I do is to create the fact, eg baptism, create a source for that fact, then add that image of the entry to that source. If you have a transcription of that source you can add that in the "text from source" box. Often the transcription contains information that's not on the image. However if the...
