gedcom files and ipad

gedcom files and ipad

I notice when using Gedview that some information is missed out eg dates missing and names truncated. Apart from that it has been an excellent means of viewing the Gedcom file albeit with limited diagram capacity inasmuch as the only diagram I have been able to create is a limited ancestor diagram ....

running FH software

I run a small netbook with FH on it when away from home. It is synced to my PC using Dropbox and this means all my additions are updated to the PC as soon as : i) I ensure the netbook has been connected to the internet and any additions have therefore been updated to DropBox ii) I make sure that the...

Two sets of parents? How to link them?

As he is an Uncle isn't that the answer ie he is a brother to either the mother or father? If the problem is showing the closer bond between them I imagine a note or event added to each child would help highlight the link. Or is the question you are asking really 'How does one show the close link in...

How does one embed links in a post's text?

I'm always impressed at how some members embed links in their posts. Often these take others quickly to other threads or knowledge base items and stand out clearly as they are normally in a coloured font. The problem is I don't have a clue as to how one does that. Could anyone give advice please? Or...

Gedview and iPads

Thanks Jane. I also found the answer in that thread to my next question which was going to be can you use DropBox still and get the Gedcom file onto the iPad via that facility. From at least one post that is indeed possible.

Gedview and iPads

I understand the iPad cannot handle FH but as I am tempted to get one all the same and have heard of Gedview I wondered if others could share their experiences of using the iPad for family history and gedview if they have it.

Another point about DropBox is that if you somehow, mistakenly, deleted a file on DropBox it would be deleted from both computers. However you can go back to the DropBox site and find any deleted file and restore it without problem.

Depends on the size of your files but I and many others use DropBox. Search for the many comments that have been posted here before. One point , if you share your pictures etc with others and they join DropBox you get an extra 500Mb per person joining. I now have 5.75Gb!

Loading FH on a Net Book

I bought a netbook last year and immediately realised how much I missed the CD drive. Three days later and £6 less in the bank and Amazon delivered a nice little unit that is doing everything I need re ripping CD's, downloading programs etc.

Hi John, I did make a complete COPY using Windows however there is a warning against doing so to MOVE DropBox this way on their website as they say it will not maintain its syncronisation.
What do others think?

Installation to a disk other than C:

Before moving FH's folders I took the opportunity to ensure all other folders were moved from C to D drive thus leaving the new SSD with programs and Windows files. Using the DropBox Desktop Application I tried to move FH from C:>Users>Dagwood>My Documents>My DropBox to a similar path but starting D...

Hi, My grand-daughter graduates on Thursday and we cannot be at the ceremony but understand there will be a live broadcast over the internet on: http://www.arts.ac.uk/student/awardceremonies/livevideostreaming/ I'd love to record it and edit her part in the ceremony for storage on FH.
