Creating an audio book - advice needed
Thank you Jane , I found the recorder under Windows Media Player. I hadn't realised there was any facility for this until your reply. I will try GoldWave as I cannot see how you compile a continuous recording in WMP. I guess it is possible and will continue to see if it can be done as there may be a...

Creating an audio book - advice needed
In a seperate thread I describe how I am scanning c70 handwritten pages of my mother's life story (1914-2001). My brother is unfortunately going blind and having problems reading anything so I thought a CD with my reading it through would help. There is a lack of sibling gratitude when he remembered...

Converting jpg scans to pdf?
I have to confess to sending batches of jpegs at the moment as all receiving it said they can see photos (ie myjpgs) normally and not all wanted pdf's . I will however continue trying to assemble as one pdf once all the scanning is completed and will therefore look at Irfanview. Thanks Dagwood ps If...

Converting jpg scans to pdf?
Whilst fiddling around with the jpeg images for conversion I happened to use Photoshop Elements 6 for improving sharpness. As I went to save the documents I found there was a PDF option which worked perfectly. I felt I had to let others know that this is available if they have PSE. I have version 6 ...

Searching Census by address?
Having found family names can be terribly distorted in transcription from census returns (e.g, Piper found as Pipes and Peper) I wondered if anyone knows how to search Ancestry.co.uk for an address rather than a name in the hope that family members still lived there or lived there at earlier date? M...

Converting jpg scans to pdf?
Could anyone point me in the direction of a jpg to pdf converter plse? I see there are many when I Google it but would like to have a free one that has some recommendation from forum users. I have about 70 scanned pages of my mother's life story and would like to distribute this around the family. A...

FH4 Crashing when trying to attach photos
I'm no computer expert but recently my pc kept crashing when creating panoramas with Photoshop Elements 6.Then I noticed the same happened when I was creating large tree diagrams in FH4 (I do have the upgrade Jane mentioned) . After much correspondence with PhotoRadar and ElemementsVillage forums I ...

Is there any way of using a dotted line?
Thank you ,both of you for that advice.I'll check how to do what you suggest and follow that. I like the idea of a 'big red ? ' and the ability to search for all entries thatare doubtful.

Is there any way of using a dotted line?
I'm using FH to show all likely branches of our tree and Ancestry for definitive/proven family members. We have come across a highly respected person's genealogy of my wife's family which we suspect is based on a couple of unproven connections to earlier families with the same name. We don't want to...

Nick, we cracked it! Following your alternative approach we searched Guilfoy and found an unknown second marriage. Maud had a second husband before marrying Edward Edmeads. We don't know as yet what happened to the second hubby but it's possible we may find a WW2 fatality. Of more general interest is...

FreeBMD mystery - please help!
Nick, thanks for pointing us at that page, we had not seen it as we approached from the Maud C Chapman direction. As you say it does not appear uncommon for two names to show on spouse , however in this case the Guilfoy name is not known and is definitely not a maiden name. The mystery remains but t...

FreeBMD mystery - please help!
Nick, thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I could not have made it very clear first time so here goes again: As you say a page normally has 4 entries,it just happens this has 6 of which 2 are irrelevant. Four entries have one male name, two of these have one female name, the other two another u...

FreeBMD mystery - please help!
Problem: deceased female relative ,thought to be a widow in 1930's,found in one volume/page of FreeBMD marrying a second time but with four entries shown. I would expect two but here the 'widow'is shown marrying the same person but giving two different names. One is her original marriage name ,the s...

Is there a need for a Diagram forum?
It has probably been asked before but seeing how many posts come up that are diagram, rather than version, related would there be any advantage in having a forum devoted to Diagram issues? I ask this with limited knowledge of the variations between versions (None really!-Ed) and how that affects dia...

Emailing a Diagram
Jon, Thanks for a most clear, concise, and helpful answer. I seem to have odd problems creating pdf files from diagrams but will persist ( I think it has something to do with the printer dialogue and selecting Copy to file) However when it does succeed it is a much better result than I have had with j...

Jane thankyou for your latest reply and apologies for not understanding you first time round.Put it down to my lack of understanding of all the features available in FH. Emailing a Diagram
Jane ,is there an advantage in saving a diagram as a PDF rather than a jPeg? I tried pdf's when first starting to e mail diagrams but some recipients had problems (possibly they did not have Adobe Reader? Not sure.) Anyhow,as soon as I started trying SaveAs Jpeg and e-mailing these the recipients we...

Thanks Jane, I somehow thought it was not going to be easy. Are you aware of any way the text for relationships can be transposed into the boxes automatically? I'm hoping you don't have to type each one in!

Could anyone point me in the right direction for instructions if it is at all possible when using a horizontal diagram (eg left to right)to have the relationships appear horizontal and not vertical? Problem with latest upgrade on V4
Hi there Jane and Simon, thanks for the prompt replies and I have started the ball rolling with a copy of the text and the file sent to the address you gave . I'll try the other bits this afternoon when I get some time and see if it is just the one record, the printer ,or 'validating ' the record. I...

Sharing your tree with family members
Jane, I've tried that now, as I do indeed have Windows 7 64bit, but no joy yet. The only window I get is a print one and I'm baffled as to what I'm doing wrong. For the moment though, the use of a slightly reduced jpeg attached to an e-mail seems to be meeting my needs . As I progress with use I'll ...
