Find Duplicate Individuals Version 1.5+

Hi Mike, I was about to ask if non-duplicates could somehow be excluded but saw your thread re v1.5 and have read your notes re a named List ie: 'In addition, any Individual Records placed in a Named List called 'Non-Duplicates' will automatically be excluded.' I have tried this on a pair of names b...

Help needed on Ancestry.com media

I have a problem locating some media found in Ancestry into the correct position and under the correct title eg: 1.  I have found Dorset records for marriages that are listed as being in the book of Burials and this creates a Death record so that instead of the fact appearing as his marriage it show...

Problem with media images

Reviewing my media images I notice that I have a small number of census images which will not open as thumbnails when I select an individuals media records ie there is a blank box with a cross through it. I have checked and rechecked that the image is in the right place in the Project folder and tha...

Well done Jane! I have always had a problem viewing media particularly where added via Ancestral Sources compared with additions direct to the record. At first glance this plug-in appears to have overcome that problem.

Duplicate individuals

That worked fine with one point worth noting: If you try to select both records using Ctrl key it does not work whereas Shift does. Worth remembering if using the Compare/Merge feature.
Thanks again Jane

Thanks Jane, No I did not realise that and will do so now. Trust me to get over enthusiastic and start using it before I've read up on it properly!

Duplicate individuals

I've just run this plug-in and at first glance it has really surprised me how many duplicates I have ( or might have) and that need checking thoroughly. One suggestion Mike, or should I say request, and that is is it at all possible to show each individual's Record No in the result set? It's no big ...

Updating a project after a family history trip

I keep my media and project on DropBox and have had no problems whatsoever once I made sure that nothing in the media file was starting with a C:* but that everything was shown as being in the Project Folder. I never have to copy or drag and drop and anything deleted ,either accidentally or delibera...

Help - direct line indication in Record view

Am I overlooking the point here? Surely one has only to put the direct line of ancestors in Capitals and leave the rest in a mixture of Caps and lower case. I also put non blood related spouses in lower case only to show there is no genetic connection to the root.

adopted parent becomes a relative?

Gerry Newnham said: Dagwood, ........ There probably isn't a definitive answer to this one and everyone needs to ponder what they would do in such circumstances. adopted parent becomes a relative?

Gerry Newnham said: Just a thought but surely if I adopt a child I become a relative of future generations in the same way that a spouse becomes a relative (aunt/uncle/cousin as well as parent) through marriage? Forum posting lost

Can I suggest that this may be the same issue I had a short while ago inasmuch as I always preview my posts after typing them out. The preview page is so like a posted message that a couple of times I then forgot to Send them after preview and wondered why they had been 'lost'. Of course this will n...

Back-up using Ancestry?

Well that worked perfectly. I imported my main project Gedcom from Ancestry into Family Historian as a new project; used the Split Tree Helper to delete the bits I did not want to merge;  then did a File Merge which added loads of records it would have taken an age to import manually! Now I'm thinki...

Version 5.0.1 contents

Looking at Calico Pie's website there is a list of the issues addressed for V5 as V5.0.1. This new version is available for download from that site although I imagine unless one has issues with V5 it might be best left alone until it too is de-bugged?

Downloading usable gedcoms?

Like Goodwin I hadn't heard of the 5.0.1 upgrade so looked at Calico Pie's website. It looks like it's the early phase (Beta?) to address some of the issues probably raised by FHUG members. It's called a Release Candidate and is easily downloaded with full instructions given there.

Saving Favourites in Google Chrome

John, Jane, thanks for those tips. I hadn't seen the prompt re importing Favourite etc when I downloaded to the Notepad however following Nick's link I see it has appeared on the toolbar now. I'll watch out for that when I download Chrome to my PC later today.
Thanks to all of you

Photos.... to copy or not

A minor variation on the suggestions made already: I use DropBox to access my project from both my Notepad and my PC. As such I am restricted by DropBox's  maximum storage capacity which when I started using it was 2.5Gb. This got me into the habit of reducing the size of family photos from their or...
