Re: Relationship Reports

Hi, Many thanks for your replies. Mike, I do mean the 'Tools > How Related' report. I just wish it could be possible to produce a concise and succinct relationship diagram without lots of time consuming faff. Valkrider, attached is a diagram illustrating how it is is done in T.N.G. (2007/2008 anyway...

Relationship Reports

Hi, It would be nice to have a function to display relationships in a graphical tree form but through direct lines only. The current report form is acceptable but not very good (and not graphic). The graphical relationship function is pretty much useless if trying to print it as it would require man...

Re: Bulk adding source data

Well, I took the photos of the headstones but somebody has transcribed the names and dates for me from the photos of the headstones. I'm just wanting the transcribed data to be associated with the person who transcribed them :-)

Re: Bulk adding source data

Thanks for the replies and for creating that, David. I will try it in the next few days and report back :) The Gedcom in question contains 4500ish people transcribed from headstones from a single person. I just wish to acknowledge them as the source of the data before adding additional data to it :D

Bulk adding source data

Hi,

Is there any way to add the same source data to multiple records?

The only way I can currently think of is by exporting a Gedcom to a new Gedcom with the new source data and then merging it back.

Re: OneDrive Free Storage Increase

I started using OneDrive when it was known as Sky Drive back in 2007 when it had 25GB storage. I was entitled to have this transferred to OneDrive so I now have 28GB free. For around £34 per year, I back up my entire computer to the cloud with Carbonite. This allows me to view all of my computer on ...

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

Hi,

I used the updated plugin on www.mollekin.net/swintonpeople It seems to be working great.

What I've noticed though is that if a name is entered and the enter key is hit, the search box is cleared instead of proceeding with the search. But perhaps this was occurring before anyway :-)

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

Thanks for creating this Mike. I have not used it yet though, but will have soon.

Personally though, I'm not sure whether displaying 'Please Wait' whilst inactive is a good idea though.

I added one but it's ended up in limbo. I should delete and try again maybe.

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

When I tested this on my computer, the Tooltip looked great. But now it is on the site, it looks a bit odd:-

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

Thanks for the advice regarding Safari. I did clear the cache but haven't tried enabling Javascript. I may just add a note on the website explaining that it is best viewed in Chrome, I.E. and F.F. I've just tried the updated search tool and it looks good. I can see too how it is highlighted in red e...

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

I noticed before that the search function would work, for example, with William Kew as opposed to it having to be Kew, William. But I'm not complaining because it's works brilliantly. The search tips would be really handy I think. A lot of my users aren't very computer savvy (hence my reason for swi...

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

I've just tried this on an iPad. It works fine in Chrome but not in the Safari browser. It performs the same as before the refinements that you made today (frozen screen/slow loading) and missing the Clear Search / Start Search buttons.

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

Well, it's excellent so far :-)

The only problem I foresee with it is user error. I think people will for example enter John William Kew as opposed to Kew, John William.

I think I find the search function to perform quicker in Explorer.

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

I've just tried this and I really like it; it's very good. Loads better than before and far, far quicker.

I like how the visitor is made aware that the search is taking place (rather than just a frozen screen).

Thanks for creating this, Mike :-)

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

I'm rebuilding the site now ( www.mollekin.net/swintonpeople ), but without the search function, and it will be uploaded within about two hours, so maybe you'd like to test the speed tomorrow please?

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

I personally don't find the loading time of the names to be a problem, normally, without the plugin. With the plugin, just the basic index takes ages to load.

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

Hi, Many thanks for the replies, Jane and Mike. Mike, do you think the searches would be only marginally quicker with the update or noticeably quicker? In Chrome, the search function doesn't seem to work at all when using the plugin that you created on the 16/06/14. It worked in Windows Internet Exp...

Re: Improved indexing of names on generated websites

Hi,

I've just tried this on my biggest site and I think it's maybe not working so well with large numbers. It seems to lock up/not load very quickly.

The site is: http://mollekin.net/swintonpeople
