All sorted now. Thanks to you two I have not only cleared up the errors I had spotted, but I have fixed some others that were not so obvious. And I have a better understanding of how to use some of the features of FH
Thanks again
Eric

Hidden Sources - where / why have they gone?
Brilliant! Thank you both very much. I now have a Named List showing me exactly which records (4 Individual and 9 Family) where I have errors that need correcting. I really appreciate the detailed and swift (and accurate!) responses. For the record, I think this situation arose because (for a short ...

Hidden Sources - where / why have they gone?
Thanks to both for your quick responses. Here are my attempts to answer your questions. I think the answer lies in my response to Peter's final question - see below, but for completeness I have answered all the questions. Have you any clues as to how the .ged got upset? A - No, although not sure it ...

Hidden Sources - where / why have they gone?
In uploading my gedcom to PGV I found that I still had some Places (PLAC) with the wrong hierarchy, despite recently correcting them all. I have used PSPad Editor to review my Gedcom file and can see that in all the cases where there is a incorrect Place data it is associated with a Residence (RESI)...

Places - same number of levels for all?
Thanks for the detailed response. I'll consider your advice, but I'm not sure I have the will to change all my addresses again. Right now I just want to get the PGV maps feature to work, and I'm struggling, but I guess that's a different forum.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Places - same number of levels for all?
Thanks again! I'm glad you agree as I find it very satisfying to see all my Place data stacked up neatly in the Place List window. My reference to Google Maps is because I am going to be using PHPGedView to display my data on the web, and it make use of Google Maps. I've uploaded a copy of my gedcom...

Places - same number of levels for all?
I have adopted the convention of having 5 levels for all my Places, namely; village, town, city, county, country. This makes for very easy reviewing of my Place data. However, in some cases I do not have a village name, or even a town name. This means that in many cases I have at level 1, and even a...

How to reverse Place data
As usual, my impetuosity got the better of me and I was well down the road before I saw your second email. In fact I had already stripped out all the address details. Also, I have not been consistent in using the same number of levels for each place; they vary from 1 to 6. So I could not use PSPad i...

How to reverse Place data
Wow! Thanks for the prompt responses. Thanks Jane - that is what I have been doing for the last 2 hours or so since posting this question. However I realised that before doing as you have suggested I need to strip out the address details into the Address field, and I need to do that person by person...

How to reverse Place data
Due to a limited understanding of how to use FH I have entered all my Place data in reverse. For example, instead of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, I have entered England, West Yorkshire, Leeds. In some cases, where I had it, I have added specific address details after the town name. I did all this...

How to delete broken links
Using 'Work with External File Links' I can see I have a small number of broken links. They all point to a folder I no longer use, and are duplicates of valid multimedia links (which link to the Project Data folder as they are supposed to). Therefore I don't want to correct them, I just want to dele...
