Re: Sort on "Name Suffix"
Thanks Jane. I have had a play and managed to get the column working but I am struggling with the Query, having never written my own before. I've been following the Knowledge Base guide but have not managed to get it to display a list yet, just an empty column. I'll have another try over the weekend...

Sort on "Name Suffix"
Is it or could it be possible to sort on the Name Suffix? the reason being I have a large number of titled people who are often referred to by their title rather than their surname. Which is at times becoming increasingly difficult to find them, if I cannot recall the surname.

Re: Fact Types
The reason for not using the label 'Title' in a Diagram box is because the subject of the line was not relevant to a Title.
Thanks for your help. I will now go and have a play.

Re: Fact Types
My thoughts were to do something like David suggested and have a field where I could put in a small biography. I created a fact labelled 'biog' but hadn't worked out how to make a larger window to enter the text, other than using the note field. But then considered that it was probably bad practice,...

There has been recent discussion on best practice for using Sir and Titles etc. But I am wondering how others record high status jobs with or without titles such as a Privy Counsellor, Chancellor or Ambassador etc. Occupation works for Ag Labs, Servants, Trades people even Doctors, but it doesn't re...

KB article corrupted?
I think an item in the Knowledge Base might have been got at. Under How To / Genealogy Research / Hints & Tips / Research Course Slide Show. The last item "Brick Walls" if you click on the topics they have a blog and other junk attached to them.

I found a posting on FHUG some while ago with a link to "Roger's Research Recommendations" from Roger Firth http://www.firthworks.com/genealogy/RRR/index.html No 9 is the one that will interest you. Similar to what Adrian was suggesting but perhaps slightly better wording. He creates a spouse and us...

Re: Historical Event Timeline
Forgive me for jumping in here, please start a new thread if it's more appropriate. I have downloaded both of these Queries from the KB and followed the instructions without any modification. Created a couple of facts for /! Historical/ but I cannot get them to display in an Individuals Timeline tha...

Re: Ancestral Sources v5.1 (Beta)
I have been using the beta version for Register entries with no problem apart from the birth date month being in all in upper case. Which is perhaps more a template issue? Than an issue with the beta version itself. I've looked but cannot find a way of altering it, other than just editing the text b...

When opening the "Edit Media Item" window, the three tick boxes for Exclude from Dia's., Reports and Use Note as Caption are greyed out. Is that correct?

Re: 1939 Register
Excuse my ignorance but I have just started on the 1939 Registration and am a bit confused with the KB Template. I have downloaded it and amended as per instructions but when viewing the template, for "Title:" it has inserted "Census 1939 RG101". Should that have changed Census into Register? Also i...

Re: New Pre-release: 6.1.2 - Show Media
I used the words "such as" the menu items can be whatever is required. I was simply being diplomatic. You could use "Add Citation" to copy / cite the source to another fact. You could equally want to use "Add Source" to add another source to that fact. All I am trying to do is offer a simpler altern...

Re: New Pre-release: 6.1.2 - Show Media
I will leave "What is the difference between Add Source and Add Citation?" to those discussing it. It seemed as though what they wanted was both options. That was why I put "such as" it can include what ever is felt necessary. The "Show Media" would, as I said, do what it has been doing prior to 6.1...

Re: New Pre-release: 6.1.2 - Show Media
Please don't forget the basic premise of FH, which I am sure I have read somewhere. To work for those who only want the basics just as well as for the power users. With that in mind, what is wrong with only having three buttons in the "Sources for" panel of the "Individual Property Box"? 1. "Show Me...

Re: AS Fails to Open on install

Re: AS Fails to Open on install
In DEP I selected the other option and the Ancestral Sources.exe file, but it would not accept it. message came up "You cannot turn on DEP for 64bit executables". In Safe Mode I tried uninstalling and re-installing as Administrator but it didn't make a difference. I will try again tomorrow (later to...

In the DEP window the other option "Turn on DEP for Essential Windows progs and services only" is ticked on mine. So I did not change it.

Nick I do not have such a folder, could that be because AS has not yet opened on this m/c? I have also just uninstalled and reinstalled AS, no different.
