Yes I did look at the How To, but the Alternate Name and how to find it didn't register. I went past it to the All tab option. It is, of course, just what I needed.

Thanks for your help.

Deleting unknown or empty spouse box

I have just put a request into the wish list, if you could just cast your eye over to see if it ok. Thanks

To not have blank or ';unknown'; boxes in diagrams

To have as the default on diagrams, that when a spouse box has no entry to any field. A spouse box will not appear in the diagram. At present if you have build a diagram from a single parent child. The child box appears below the parent with the link line coming out of the bottom of the parent box. ...

I've been doing a bit of Googling and it appears that you can call yourself any name you like as long as you are not doing it for illegal reason. The only time there was any law about it was between 1939-45. You can use Deed Poll but it is not compulsory. Not sure I have this right, It appears to be...

Deleting unknown or empty spouse box

Yes, that works. I assume you meant to unlink rather than delete the other spouses family? That's what I did and it works. Would that be something for the wish list? Perhaps it could be done so that boxes without content were not published in diagrams. Or better still children could be added to an i...

On the certificate it does actually list the mother using the fathers name and give the 'formerly' name after as in the case of a married couple. Only the first name of the child was recorded. So what surname should the daughter be using? If the fathers name is on the certificate surely that should ...

The names have been left out to protect the innocent. I have an unmarried couple who in 1845 register the birth of a daughter under the mans name. Three years later the girl has a son and registers him under her name with no father mentioned. The child only lives for 6 months. In the '51 census the ...

Yes, that's what it is! They both have other spouses, I must have been building the diagram around the child in my first example.
It's a shame I thought I had found a way of not having blank boxes or '?' or 'unknown' etc.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks for your reply

I have just tried your method but it is the same result. The link line to the spouse remains and the child link comes from that, not from the mother.

Deleting unknown or empty spouse box

I recently added a child onto a single female without adding a spouse. When I then look at them on an 'All Relatives' diagram, I see the mother with the child directly underneath with a connecting link line. In the past when adding a child with no father I have put a '?' or 'father unknown' in the s...

Can a CD 'website' be viewed on an iPad?

I have managed to load get cd/website on to Android phone and view it with 'Dolphin' browser (others might work) but I cannot do the same on an iPad. If you use dropbox you can view all the photos images in your project media folder via the iPad. You can load on pdf of tree diagrams, but they are bi...

Data not going accross to Family Historian

You say you only have one .ged file, on the go, but have you unknowingly got two copies of it? In FH under File dropdown menu click on File Statistics. A window will open and at the top it will display the file path of the .ged file FH is using. Now in AS under Tools dropdown menu click on View Log ...

Android phone for field research

You do not need any other software to get Your FH data onto your HTC. Just use the create a CD option in FH but instead of burning to a CD transfer it onto your phone. You might need a different internet browser App than the one pre installed on the phone. I use the Dolphin browser App. If you want ...

Bygones Db Software

Yes I had seen the mailing list but it didn't look particularly active. However I have sorted the problem with the UK Db downloads, the file type was being changed during download. So even though the software could display the file correctly, it couldn't do anything with it! With that sorted. Now al...

Is there anybody out there using Bygones? I've spent a good part of the day trying to get going with it, without success. I have tried loading the UK sources Db but it errors every time. Without that there seems little point in trying to input data. I did try but... I would appreciate hearing from s...

So what about the Ipad ??

For anyone that may be wondering what I ended up with, I eventually purchased a NetBook. Mine was less than half the cost of an Ipad, will run Family Historian & AS, plus MS Onenote which I now use if I don't want to input direct into FH. The battery lasts all day doesn't need charging or even takin...

Wrong settings or bad input?

Thanks Nick it has now disappeared from all the reports I had a problem with. Even the ones in 2008 [rolleyes] Once you had shown me that my Source Records in FH were correct. I knew it had to be something set wrong in the report options of FH. Thanks to all who replied, I am now wiser [wink] Regards

Wrong settings or bad input?

Well Tatewise's suggestion has worked, after creating a new census source record. But, always a but. looking at the other sources on the report I see one that was created in 2008 has the ref ID duplicated. Yet checking another census source record created at the same time it has no duplication! So I...

Thanks for your reply I had missed the upgrade so that is now done. My second question I understand and can see how to deal with. With regard to the census ref. Wrong settings or bad input?

I appear to be doing something wrong when inputting info into AS or I have settings wrong in FH or AS.
