Same person in file 3 times

Ran for 3% - 10 seconds

Largish gedcom, 33,000 individuals. I'm doing a one name study so am going to have hundreds of duplicates.

I can upload the gedcom to my website and give you the url if you require.

Mocavo web site

It is a 'pay for' search engine tailored to genealogy, with a few extras. I used the free Beta version and found it ok, but no better than Google. To get the full potential requires a subscription. There is an offer to save some money at the moment but on seeing that, I didn't bother going further, ...

Find duplicate individuals?

Duplicate record checking is one the Wishlist. Three times actually - #56, #250 and #471 No idea if it will be implemented but you could add your vote to them or comment on the oft-unvisited temporary list at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aucc-18Ko4MmdEVnMk5XODdEajViRHJvVGwxd05pX2c#gi...

Branch Merge / Compare- How?

I have tried this from
Edit > Merge/Compare Records
and also cannot understand how to do it.

In the past I've messed up big time with an ill considered merge so prefer to do it by individual and/or family. In that way I have control and don't do things like merge reused named children.

Data not going accross to Family Historian

What is the name of the gedcom you are using for FH? Where is it located? What is the name of the gedcom you are using for AS? Where is *it* located? This type of thing has happened to me when I inadvertently had two identically named .geds in different directories. AS and FH (and other programs for...

Are you using the 'search all possible names' plugin. I just tried it with my wife's first name only and got her plus the family record. Also you only need to put in the first few letters e.g. if I was looking for William Michael, who could be Will Michell or Wm Michall I just put in W and Mic and g...

Same person in file 3 times

I've added duplicates unsuspectingly loads of times - e.g. where distant cousins marry. It normally comes to light when I enter a census and the address pops up as already entered and I think 'oh, that's a coincidence' before realising it isn't. Regarding the wishlist, there are three items (see htt...

Toggle button in options to open FH on last person

By clicking on the UPDATED column, the last person worked on is at the top of the list. I do that a lot as I manually toggle between that and people in name order.

Fails dismally mind if you do a Tools > Re-Order Out Of Sequence Events.

My anti-virus software occasionally takes exception to Ancestral Sources and tells me that it is going to run it in Sandbox mode (until I tell it not to be so silly). I take it to mean that it will run but will not update anything in the deep dark depths of the computer. The sandbox analogy is that ...

Hi It might be helpful if I provide an overview of how (I think) this all works. Please excuse me if I'm telling you what you already know. Family Historian is like many genealogy programs in that much of the actual family data is held on something called a Gedcom. My own file is called FH5.ged When...

But does the Backup Plugin backup the Projects Folder.

I ran the plugin and can see the attached folders.

The only thing I really disliked with Webtrees were the fan charts. That and the fact I'd have to fork out another couple of quid a month for my web site provider to allow me to use mysql. I think the charts are good - pedigree, descendant, hourglass and an interactive one. I'm hoping there will be ...

New Beee on the block!

Hello Maureen, There are free sites, subscription sites and pay-per-view ones. Personally I would steer clear of the PPV unless you are positive that the record is the one you want. If you don't mind shelling out some cash, all-in-one sites like Ancestry.com, Findmypast (there are others) provide ce...

How can I print this type of report?

I find that FH doesn't lend itself to that sort of printout. It might be worth creating a custom query in FH with just the names and vital dates. Then, using the Query Menu button (one of the right-most icons on the Query toolbar) save the results as a .csv or .txt file. You can then open that with ...

The spreadsheet can be a one off exercise then. The Wiki WL list just a nice way to summarize the wishlist.

I think it could benifit from table sort and filter and some kind of fast tab to take mac users straight to that wish list item.

I last went into the Wiki in 2006 according to the emails it sent back. Since then, new computer and a rearrangement of email addresses, means I can't get into the old userid.
