Surname Advice, Please
Many thanks to all who have responded. I'm not in favour of mixed-case surnames for the reasons outlined in this thread. However I do support PeterR's Wish List post - I too have an increasing number of Irish records with Gaelic spellings. For now, I'll have to live with all upper case surnames, wit...

Surname Advice, Please
I have a record with the surname DeRomana (family members advise me it should be correctly written without a space between the lower case 'e' and the upper case 'R' and I have documents to support this). However if I type 'DeRomana' in the Property window's Main field obviously FH insists on recordi...

Gedcom Census amp; FH v4: File Won't Update
This morning I sorted it out for myself, and now I've just read your reply. Jane, you are correct of course, and thank you for the response. Yesterday I wasn't thinking straight; it wasn't one of my better days - and I'm so used to v3's way of working I was going around in circles. Put it down to co...

Gedcom Census amp; FH v4: File Won't Update
Thanks so much for the speedy response, Jane. The FH v4 file path I'm using is shown as DocumentsFamily Historian ProjectsJones. This is how FH v4 arranged my files since updating with V4. On opening Gedcom Census and opening this file (...Jones) GC won't show any record additions I've made since us...

Gedcom Census amp; FH v4: File Won't Update
I've been using Gedcom Census quite happily with FH v3. Everthing works as it should. But today using FH v4.02 with it for the first time since upgrading from FH v3, I find that Gedcom Census won't show added records in its individual's listing pane that I've added recently via FH. Gedcom Census ope...

Confirming v 4.0.2. Upgrade
'I wondered when you would spot this, Pike!'
Seriously, many thanks, Gerry. My copy of FH does, indeed, show confirmation it has ugraded to v 4.0.2.
Now I can get on with worrying about other, more important issues!
Regards,
Brian

Confirming v 4.0.2. Upgrade
It appears that I have successfully downloaded and installed from Calico Pie's site the v 4.0.2. upgrade, and FH runs without any obvious problems. I say 'appears' as in my programs installed listing FH shows the correct installed time. However, on loading FH the 'title page' still shows my version ...

Auto Source Enabled Reminder
Many thanks for the support! Jon's suggestion of a colour change in the Property window when Auto Source is enabled is one I would be very happy to endorse. Basically, I want to know, clearly and unambiguously, that Auto Source is engaged, so that when I am drawn away from the program to attend to o...

Three Cheers for Jane
I've already thanked Jane personally for the individual help and assistance she's given as a new user with queries. I do so here publicly. THANK YOU for all you do. Quite honestly, I'm stunned that she ever gets any work done, what with her unstinting commitment to this site and the FH community. To...

FH Development road map
chrisjk said: I have always sought software that is easy and elegant to use, has a good UI and a thoughtful provision of tools to manipulate the data. Here, here! I agree thoroughly. However, my not unreasonable concern, judging by past history, is that developers eventually make their software all...

FH Development road map
I have no experience of iFamily or Macs, so can't comment on how they compare to FH on a PC. At the end of last year I chose FH for my first computer genealogy software program having previously logged my research on paper... and not very well! FH v3 has made a world of difference to my understandin...

Auto Source Enabled Reminder
A simple request, really, if it's not been suggested before... Please, a nice BIG, flashing Auto Source Enabled reminder in RED prominently displayed in the bottom right corner. It would do wonders for my blood pressure! Thank you. Brian http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldisplay.php?wlwlref=403 ID:3...

v4 Upgrade: Is It Worth the Risk?
As someone relatively new to genealogy, after much consideration, late last year I purchased FH v3 with the free upgrade v4 CD offer from S&N, which has yet to be delivered. For me, FH v3 is a brilliant program and together with Gedcom Census it does pretty much all I ask of it. I don't regret my pu...

1911 Census
I agree very much with PartickT's comments. Being new to family genealogy, I've found the 1911 Census website easy to use and worthwhile. So far eight searches and the correct results every time. I print out the original census scans in colour on an A3 Epson photo printer on A4 paper via Photoshop ...
