PDF Files Saving in Portrait Format
Many thanks, both, for your help and advice. This morning I've had another 'play'. The results are inconsistent. With FH's Query default settings, using Query's Save Query to File icon for a PDF file a landscape Query saves as a portrait formatted PDF page and columns are squashed together when view...

PDF Files Saving in Portrait Format
Hi Jane,
Thanks for the response.
Windows Vista x32 with all updates. FH v4.0.2.
Can you please explain Saving to FH Printer rather than PDF direct? The only options I see from the Query Window Print icon are PDF; CSV; Text.
Regards,
Brian

Belated Happy New Year All This has been driving me nuts today... This morning I generated an All Relatives Query Listing for emailing. It is shown in landscape in FH's Query window. So far so good... but if I save it as a PDF file and open it with Adobe Reader, it showns as a portrait format with t...

Pete, I don't have anywhere near your number of sources - a mere 822! However, planning ahead, I labelled my Source Records Certificate, Birth/Marriage/Death etc as appropriate. The censuses I named UK Census 1901/1911/1861: BLOGSS, Joe/Ada etc. In the Source Type field I labelled the Types Census; ...

KSS,
Looks a little like an un-squashed, abridged version of the Odd Fellows logo, which can be found at:

Any idea of the date and place the photograph was taken?

I pretty much do what Jane does. Also, I print off a hard copy as a paper backup, which goes into my file. I can then review the document at leisure, away from the computer screen. If you're worried about text file sizes, remember they pale into insignificance compared to digital photographs/media e...

Maggie, I pretty much do what Gerry does. Basically, the few military documents I have found I treat as I do any other source, eg birth, marriage, death certificates, gleaning the information as Events/Attributes/Facts etc, and linking the document as Media. Also, I print out a hard copies of the do...

Cheers, BillT, for the Avisoft Accentype2 link - I didn't know about this program, which is a step up from Character Map, and a doddle to use. There must be millions of excellent Freeware programs 'out there'. So here's one of my favourites... Need a dictionary? Try Wordweb - http://wordweb.info/ It...

I have a few relatives with names that have accented characters, e.g. Oisín; Gráinne; DeRomaña etc. When I need an accented character I open the Windows Character Map program, choose the character I require - Select>Copy - and Paste the character in FH in its position in the word, which is what I've...

Not really a query regarding FH per se... I now want to speed up the printing of FH's Reports, and I would like to resurrect my 'old' HP LaserJet 4M Plus printer, which doesn't have USB connections, just a parallel port. My laptop has USB connections and no parallel port. Problem! Does anyone know w...

My computer crashed, lost everything... Lost everything?! If so, it is such a shame and so unnecessary. Were you not backing-up your valuable files? External hard drives are relatively cheap, USB memory even more so - certainly cheaper than losing your important work due to computer chashes. Also, ch...

If your Events have dates go to Edit>Re-order Events by Date... F9. This will re-order records individually. For a global re-order to all records at once go to Tools>Re-order Out-of-Sequence Data.

Hope this helps... Go to Edit>File Root. Is Clear File Root grey? If so you haven't made someone the File Root, so FH can't work out the relationships! Like you, Jon, it bugs me that FH ploughs its own path, yet is Windows-based. So why can't it use standard Windows conventions we all are used to? I want programs that are consistent and productive, and enjoyable to use. When they aren't, it bugs me that I have to learn a different way of doing thin...

Re; Large media files
In a slightly different area, three years ago I faced similar issues with a school log book belonging to my wife's primary school: the journal covered the period from 1914 - 1957, quite often with daily recordings and pasted newspaper cuttings for fete days and celebrations etc. It has been a long, ...

Thank you ejp! Your explanation is clear and concise and will, I am sure, help others in the same situation - and thank you, too, for posting the diagram. Many thanks to both of you for the links. Currently I have 'John Smith' recorded as a son of his birth parents, as this is a fact. However, his parents split up and 'John Smith' was brought up from a young age by his aunt and uncle, the 'Jones', adopting their surname when he was an adult, as he fel...

I feel sure the following must have been covered extensively previously, but I just can't find the topic thread. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?
