A3 Printers

Occasionally I print with an Epson Stylus Photo 1400, using FH with Vista. Not a problem.

As tatewise has pointed out, the height of a picture is determined by the value in the Diagram Options. The width is determined by the width of the picture imported or chosen by when selecting. Therefore the width will vary. If I have 6x4' photo, it will be a different proportion to a 4x4'. However,...

bm, Forgive me if I haven't understood what you are trying to do... When I select a face to link from, say, a group photo, the area I choose to be most suitable to capture the face I require from the group will be all different, as the faces are different proportions. Ergo, the linked face images sh...

Seasonal Greetings to All

Is it in order to wish one and all a HAPPY CHRISTMAS and ALL THE VERY BEST FOR 2011? Guess I just have! Seriously, many thanks to our wonderful FH community who have made my use and enjoyment of FH so much the richer. From the posts I have learned so much and found new ways of working, especially fr...

I wish someone had told me . . . When I started

Jane, Here's my tuppence worth: 1. Wish I'd spoken to as many of my ancestors as I could when I had the chance. 2. Wish I and they had recorded information on the back of photographs, eg date; place; who. 3. Not been so free and easy in allowing to be discarded what I thought were unwanted artifacts...

Mac

I'm no expert on Apple and its software. However, I do know one can use Windows-based software on a Mac with Apple's own software, Boot Camp. Have a look at the following: http://www.macworld.com/article/50374/2006/04/winmacfaq.html or http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461 Stating the obvious, have you...

Enhancing Photos

Gerry, All of the above is worth a try and good advice. However, if you don't want to download a free program such as Gimp or Goggle's Picasa, why not have a look at a free online photo editor such as Pixlr at http://www.pixlr.com/editor/ Working on large files can be slow-ish at times, but I've had...

Scrolling with Mouse Wheel

I thought it was just me... my mouse scroll wheel also doesn't work with FH... and yes, I'm frustrated, too! It works just fine with every other piece of software I have installed, but with FH it's a no-go. I've tried using different mouse drivers, all to no avail. For the record I'm using Vista wit...

Rebuild Button in report

I quote from FH's Help - to get Help just click on Help from FH's top menu or press F1 when you're in your Family Group Sheet when in Report mode: Rebuild Report If you make changes to the underlying data, while viewing a report, the report will update itself immediately to show the changes. But som...

Footnote Gives Free Access for a Limited Period

I pass on the following, which may be of use... On Thursday I received an email from Footnote, informing that for a limited time they have made all of their U.S. Federal Census documents available for free. However, you will need to register on their site in order to gain access to millions of recor...

Thank you, both. I had seen the link posted by Stevebye. I'm afraid it's all meaningless to me. The computer is seven years old and has been running perfectly well without problems... until yesterday, as is the way, in the middle of something important and urgent. Grr... Windows Error 7023

Forgive me, this is not a query about FH, but I hope someone more technically minded than me can help or advise. My Windows XP system has developed a fault: after loading Abode PageMaker, within a few minutes the screen goes black and XP recycles its DOS start screen until I switch it off at the mai...

Localise config settings within projects

Yes, please! I thoroughly agree with Jon. It's not rocket science.

We all have our own ways of working and custom settings, FH should be able to accommodate and save them per Project.

Currently I write down and make a note of any settings I change from Default: what a pain!

Grave headstones as a source

Irene, As RandyP writes: 'Secondary at best' - and I agree. However, if such an unreliable source is my only source, until I know better, I mark it as 'Primary', and then put the record into a Named List (Check for Definitive Source) with a note giving information and detailing progress etc attached...

And finally... maybe! Can I add my tuppence-worth? If you click on the Updated column of the Records Window, your records will be shown in date order as you have worked on them, with the last accessed and saved record being shown at the top of the list. Similar to jmurphy (Jan), if I have a number o...

Interpreting Service Record

I would like to echo David's PPS regarding service records. I know a fair bit about my late father's WWII RAF service in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (as was), and thought £30 was rather steep when I looked into obtaining his records. I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. My records arrived in a little...

Yes, you switch Auto Source Citation on and off (Tools/A Set Automatic Source Citation). Be careful! Although Auto Source is very useful and a time-saver, if you switch it on there is only a small reminder at the bottom right of the Source Window to tell you it is engaged. If Auto Source is inadvert...

Upgraded to v4 - Have I Been Done?

Phil, I've just read this thread: Jane, Margarita and Nick have beat me in making all of the points I would have written, especially with regard to Projects and not having to use FH v4's file organisation if you don't want to. Like you I was happy with FH v3. So I was very circumspect when looking a...

PDF Files Saving in Portrait Format

Apologies... I forgot to mention...

Using FH's Print/Family Historian PDF File option (default but with File/Page Setup portrait and font as Leelawadee/7pt), Query landscape saves as a PDF landscape every time, with the added advantage that more columns are shown on the page.
