Re: Uploading GEDCOM files

Descendants of James Day - c1829.ged Hi Mike last weeks are filed in their own folder, I always either add something to a name and file it myself, or I keep in named folders so I know where I am at. In the week he did some major changes, and sent an update, these are just used by me as reference fi...

Re: Uploading GEDCOM files

Sorry, instead of opening the Gedcom, it opens a box that is the project Window, the one I said I never really use.
It doesnt just try to load the ged as I usually do.

I tried also to import via this box as a project, that also fails.

Re: Uploading GEDCOM files

Mike following last post, a week ago my relation sent me some gedcoms from his FTM. and I opened them with no problems in FH just by clicking on them. After that they wouldnt open in Simpleged etc, and i assumed had changed something in FH. I was using Firebric to sort that, but you say that causes ...

Re: Uploading GEDCOM files

Hi just in case , I have played around with the geds some now. I still am not clear what the Firebric APPlication is Fixing, but it does seem to work. So if its not changing the Standard Fh gedcom into the older UTF 8 you speak of, does anyone know what it is actually changing to make my geds readab...

Re: Uploading GEDCOM files

Hi Mike Just a tad confused. so I can see I have to use a different means to get a file for Ancestry by what you say, in a different format. So is that the same thing happening with the SImple GEd and Viewged programs as well? And if I export a version to use for Ancestry, or simpleged will it then ...

Re: Uploading GEDCOM files

Hi again ok, a fixed ged uploaded first time using Mozilla, with no problems that I can see. So do I now have to 'FIX' all of my geds using the Firbric online tool, or is there a Family Historian Plugin that works the same way? Lastly, WHY are all my geds giving these errors, when they are the same ...

Re: Uploading GEDCOM files

Hi I have read through old Topics and the latest regarding the problems uploading Gedcoms to Ancestry. I noted the suggestion previously (2007) to use IE extension Tab for Mozilla, which I use mainly, is that still necessary, as I tried instal that and couldnt access a further required add on? But I...

Re: Media links on importing Gedcoms from other Programs

Thanks again. I followed the steps with split tree helper , and used a new copy of the same gedcom imported into a new project again ( i kept backups before did option2). I get that now. Re: Media links on importing Gedcoms from other Programs

Ok Mike What was happening was that after highlighting the media to add to named list, it stayed highlighted, when i clicked on LISTS that caused the options you said to be greyed out and so not selectable. Once I cleared that all went ok. I notified as you requested, V6.2.7 Your first option using ...

Re: Media links on importing Gedcoms from other Programs

Hi Mike i had already managed some of what you say, what I did not get is at step6, having highlighted the records as you say, you say select LISTS> ADD TO selected List, it was greyed out because some records were still highlighted. So thanks , that worked and all white boxes are gone. Final questi...

Re: Media links on importing Gedcoms from other Programs

Just to explain a little more, I have opended the media tab and it gives a list on the left, and shows 62 white boxes with a cross on the right. ( and media name under). I have highlighted the 62 boxes, and tried right click etc, but I cannot find a way that gives the option of select all, or the op...

Re: Media links on importing Gedcoms from other Programs

Hi I have carried out the new Project Part. It has opened the Ged and told me as doing that , there are 62 media with broken links that it asked if I want to repair. I selected no. Re: Media links on importing Gedcoms from other Programs

PS its not removing the media, as others have said, the media is already gone, but the ged is full of links to missing items when I open it in FH. Plus these white boxes where a photo or similar was, that i cannot get rid of!
