Re: Dealing with Media and Possible errors in an Ancestry Gedcom Import

Mike My writing in Red says what happened, AND the Media disappeared with ticking the box you said, as I exported. I did not use split tree helper, as I have said a few times. I have never, despite trying several times in the past, managed to successfully split a tree WHEN I cannot see the lines/ pe...

Hi Mike followed your instructions...my notes in red, and attached ( hopefully ) the UDF file Full Ancestry GEDCOM Use File > Project Window > New Project > Import a GEDCOM file to import the full Ancestry GEDCOM. The Window > Log Files may be useful later, but most issues will NOT need fixing. Use ...

Re: Dealing with Media and Possible errors in an Ancestry Gedcom Import

Hi sorry missed end bit of your last message. When I first played with this GEd, I opened it without Importing as a project, and played with ways to remove the media... Then I did the same and imported as an FH project. I then attempted to export the complete gedcom, and chose the option in both to ...

Re: Dealing with Media and Possible errors in an Ancestry Gedcom Import

Hi Mike I will experiment tonight. I will say, that I thought I had said previously that I know how to export a gedcom by highlighting individuals in a diagram, and adding to a list. Then export gedcom using that list. I thought you were suggesting another method, which I havent used, ( split tree?)...

Re: Dealing with Media and Possible errors in an Ancestry Gedcom Import

PS the following is from the original How To doc on Ancestry, it says do some things before import, is this not so important? Quick Fix Plugins The problems identified above, and several others, can be fixed as explained below: • Before importing the GEDCOM file, use File > Project Window to open sa...

Re: Dealing with Media and Possible errors in an Ancestry Gedcom Import

Hi Mike and Thanks Read through quickly, but have to do a few jobs, and will read again later. All sounds a bit complex. Re the Log files, I guessed that the No after the 1 referred to the file line number, but I couldn't get them to look right if I opened all the data field under Individual, and co...

Re: Dealing with Media and Possible errors in an Ancestry Gedcom Import

So Looking closely, many seem to be loaded As 'Non Gedcom' but are there, quite a lot are related to Addresses being moved to Notes filed. following is Person 1. Just so I know How do I interpret 1.30, as being in a particular place, or 1.49, as I tried the obvious ie 1 = individual, 30 = line Numbe...

Re: Dealing with Media and Possible errors in an Ancestry Gedcom Import

Sorry just did the Full gedcom, rather than part. got qite a list of exceptions. I realise not all will relate to the part of the ged I wish to extract, but some will. Its quite a file, and I am not clear which plugins I may need use to clean it all up. I will try attach a copy of the FH file produc...

Re: Dealing with Media and Possible errors in an Ancestry Gedcom Import

HI Mike thanks for response. Yes you are right I thought easiest way was Import as a project into FH, clear it out, then extract my people on the line I wanted. I did just first open the gedcom and try dealing with issues , without it being an FH project. I then EXPORTED without the media option, bu...

Dealing with Media and Possible errors in an Ancestry Gedcom Import

Hi again I have asked a bit about this before, but having looked around the site last night, read a great deal , inclusing the linked article on Importing from Ancestry, I still have some questions. I am on Vers 6.2.7 I have many occasions ( I would think lots of us do), when I have contact with peo...

Re: Source Fields + associated Notess, + possible duplicate branch

I think I came up with a good option. Backed up Gedcom, I opened an Everyone Diagram, and selected all the group I could see were duplicates, added to named list, exported as a seperate gedcom, Then Jenny can use these if something wrong in set retained, then deleted the named list contents. The ged...

Re: Source Fields + associated Notess, + possible duplicate branch

Well finally , after removing the 10 floating records ( i have always called them floaters) Then tidying up a few more things, I now have an evryone diagram, where a big chunk of people appear twice First at the top of the diagram, around 90 Plus I would guess, with coloured links off to groups belo...

Re: Source Fields + associated Notess, + possible duplicate branch

You mentioned Orphans, so ran that queery, but not very clear what it shows. The first person is in a pool of 12, then it reduces until loads in a pool of one, and nobne in a pool of zero. attached screenshot Orphans.png Bill PS I know from diagram there are 10 peopel in the everyone diagram who are...

Re: Source Fields + associated Notess, + possible duplicate branch

so as it looks like the higher numbered persons are the duplicate, how do i identify them as a set? there are 329 people in this gedcom, of which 100 are duplicates, if the 100 are linked and will show in an evryone diagram if i select 1 of them ( the duplicate) surely that diagram will differ by 12...

Re: Source Fields + associated Notess, + possible duplicate branch

i have 10 orphans, which i can see from doing a Everyone diagram. Is that a plugin ? But whether i click on what i believe is the original ID person, or their 90+ ID copy, if I focus, both seem to be ok if I then do an everyone diagram... I checked some of the GRO notes by opening each in NOtes tag,...

Re: Source Fields + associated Notess, + possible duplicate branch

Hi yes I had noted the fact all except 3 taht duplicate are 90 apart, but they arent all at the end if I do a sort on ID then i can read through Individual list, and they match the same order for both sets, but then towards the edn of the second set, newer records added start appearing as well, that...
