Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.5

Hi Nick, I guess if there isn't an easy way to key off the fact that there is not a space after a comma column separator, but there would be one after a comma in a heading title, then I would probably have to consider just continuing the way I have been without using the grids. I have about 500 or 6...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.5

Nick, If the census template has a column heading defined which has a comma in it, then the grid created by the conversion ends up with two columns instead one. All the data in the columns after that point for all individuals in the grid ends up in the wrong column. For example, in the 1910 USA cens...

Re: Mapping - existing, Map Facts, and Google Earth

As I recall there was a period of time when the "native" geocoder was having problems geocoding just about anything, but that was a few years ago. It has worked pretty well for me for quite awhile now.

Re: Mapping - existing, Map Facts, and Google Earth

Interesting Bill - though I have to say that you have the county written the word "County" included. That might help persuade the geocoder where things are. I have quite a few places in these formats: ,, Washington, USA ,,, Country Name or abbreviation etc. and I haven't had any problems with them ...

Re: Mapping - existing, Map Facts, and Google Earth

Trent, I'm not sure what is happening for you, but I have no problems geocoding with country abbreviations and with leading commas. I have 3240 places in my file and never run into any problems with country abbreviations or leading commas. For example: Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA geoc...

Re: Family Tab navigation and custom issues

What I do is to expand the family entry in the records window by clicking on the "+". This reveals the husband's name and the wife's name. Click on one of these and then click on the focus icon which will display them in the focus window.

Re: private notes not private?

Don't I feel a little embarrassed. The case I was looking at was a private note that included marriage and divorce dates and places. I had created this a long time ago and then later when I had found sources I had added a marriage fact and a divorce fact. It was those facts that were appearin...

Re: private notes not private?

Mike, I have some notes on Individuals that are included in [[ ]]. These are not shared notes. They are appearing in reports despite the fact that I have not ticked the option to include them. My recollection is that they did not appear in reports previously. That is why I suggested it be reported a...

Re: private notes not private?

I created an obituary fact but excluded the sentences [[ ]] thinking that it would keep them off the reports. It doesn't. How do I? I believe the settings you have should prevent private notes from being included in the report. I can reproduce this problem. This should be reported to Calico Pie, ht...

Re: spouse name

It sounds like you are referring to the Individual tab of the Records window. To add a column for spouse name, you can do the following. Right click anywhere on the column headings, select Configure Columns. in the left pane go to the bottom of the list and select <Other...>, add it to the right pan...

Re: importing Census images from MyHeritage

This sounds like a question for MyHeritage. Their user group is located at https://www.facebook.com/groups/myheritageusersgroup/.

Once you get the image downloaded it can be entered in AS in the same manner as the ones from Ancestry.com.

Re: Combining .jpg files together

However, when saving as PDF I don't think it runs OCR to make the PDF searchable. Andrew, You are correct. It does not. And I misspoke. I meant to say that after creating the PDF in IrfanView, I used the OCR option in PDF XChange Editor to create a searchable PDF. Sorry for any confusion. Bill

Re: Another Findmypast 1921 census discount

What I was trying to convey was that if FamilySearch commits to scanning, indexing and publishing the 1950 for free as far as the US Government is concerned, then this sets constraints on what a commercial operation (such as Ancestry or MyHeritage or...?) is going to be able to do. They're unlikely...

Re: Another Findmypast 1921 census discount

Probably because the Church of Latter Day Saints gets in there first. If they weren't going to do it but leaving it to the commercial web-sites, I doubt that the rest of the stuff would be as cheap. Just as clarification Ancestry.com isn't now and has never been owned by the Church of Jesus Christ ...

Re: Combining .jpg files together

In case anyone is interested. I set the options as described by PyreneesPirate and I also can now combine multiple PDFs into one. Marriage address on Main tab

Years ago I added a field on the Main tab in the area for shared details for the marriage address. It has always worked fine. I went into the definition for that field today because I wanted to change the Label on the field. When I tried to save I got the following. image2.jpg The field is define li...

Re: Combining .jpg files together

I am not really concerned that it doesn't work for me. As I mentioned, I had never used IrfanView to try to combine PDFs in the past and don't think I'll ever do that in the future. With Mike's warning about the resulting pages being just images, there is even less likelihood that I would do that. T...

Re: Combining .jpg files together

Lorna,

Are you using Options > Multipage Images > Create Multipage PDF?

If I use these and then select Add Images and add two PDF files to the selection and then click on Create PDF Image, I get:

Error! Can't load: filename.

Are you using different options?

Using FH 7.0.14.1, I just created a Descendants by Generation report which is unmodified by me and I get no headers and no footers at all.
