Re: Patronymics (& Matronymics/metronymics)
In terms of "screen estate" I am not sure about adding an extra input box (the "Anywhere box"). Can we identify a moderately intuitive (or at least memorable) way to enable switching by means of a small button/icon to toggle (persistently) between the two alternatives? See my last reply where I men...

Re: Patronymics (& Matronymics/metronymics)
I have used both of those options in the past to try to accomplish what I want, but it would be a lot more convenient if it could be done on the records window. I never really understood why filtering was limited to just the beginning characters in the last name and first name. Another option I've t...

Re: Patronymics (& Matronymics/metronymics)
With all the Norwegian and German names I have in my tree, I have long wished there was a filter on the records window that would find whatever you are searching for no matter where in the name it is rather than just the beginning. It could be an additional box so their would be a 'Last Name' box, a...

Re: Date Entry Options
You can already enter dates in the format mm.dd.yyyy in the date fields in the property box. I'm not sure about other places where dates can be entered.
Have you seen Tools > Preferences > General > Preferred Standard Date Format and Preferred Short Date Format?

Re: Save & backup
However, David has the opposite effect of no prompt to Save whatever command he uses. Yes, I was just pointing out what happens when you close the project. I agree that it should also save on exit as well as save on close. This should be reported to CP. Bill Edit: I corrected a mistake in my wording.

Re: Save & backup
However, even with Autosave on close ticked, my FH V6.2.7 and FH V7.0.17.1 both always prompt to Save, which should not happen. So the Autosave on close feature appears to be broken. But you have the opposite effect of never prompting to Save. For me with that option checked it doesn't autosave on ...

Re: Patronymics (& Matronymics/metronymics)
I'm sure everyone does it differently and there is no right or wrong way. I put the farm name in the Surname field and the given names including the patronymic in the given name fields. For example: Iver Iversen /Berge/ Many trees I see on Ancestry and other sites do it this same way. This tends to ...

Re: Family members
In the screenshots of Windows 7 Compatibility this setting is on the same screen (there isn't a separate button) which is why I suggested all the boxes needed to be unticked. It looks quite different. I should have looked up a screenshot. I didn't mean to muddy the waters. I just wanted to make sur...

Hi Sue,
Just out of curiosity... is the box checked or unchecked. Not sure why it is grayed out for you. It isn't grayed out for me.

Re: Census Conversion
Nick,
I am another one that regrets not having created the links to an Individual when doing the conversion. If you do find a way to add them after the fact that isn't too difficult to do, that would be nice to have.
Thanks,
Bill

Sue, If you go to the Ancestral Sources properties (as described by Nick above), and click on the Compatibility tab there is a button at the bottom called "Change high DPI settings". If you click on that, is the box under "High DPI scaling override" labeled "Override high DPI scaling behavior" unche...

Would it be less confusing if it said "Downloads & Plugins" rather than "Downloads/Plugins/?
Just a thought... I have no problems with the way it is.

Re: Mapping - existing, Map Facts, and Google Earth
In the US there are many different situations. Not all states have counties. Louisiana for instance has parishes. Not all states have townships. These are mostly west of the Mississippi. Some cities are not in a county, they are independent cities. Our capital, Washington DC, is not a state and is n...

Thanks Ruth,
I do have transcripts of the burials. I was hoping to be able to access images of them.

Re: Lincs to the Past
David, a simpler way is to use Familysearch Search>Catalog>Places i.e. Parishes Select On-line and the results will be filtered to only those parish records records that are available to view or search on-line. Unfortunately it appears the parish records for Spalding, Lincolnshire are only viewable...

Re: Lincs to the Past
I haven't tried as a non-subscriber, but one of my favourite ways of searching FMPs parish records is to use the Parish Records Browse facility. From the home screen, select Search at the top, then All Record Sets. Type "Lincolnshire" into the search box which contains the greyed text "e.g. census,...

Thanks all. I was able to get in and see the images for some baptisms and marriages. Odd that burials are not free. Of course I would pick a burial to look at first. Thanks Mike for pointing out that the others were free.

I created a free account. I still can't seem to see the transcripts or images. I used the name Richard Henshaw, died in 1700, in Lincolnshire, England. It found 1 hit. When I click on the icon it takes me to a page where I have to sign up for a 1 month or 12 month subscription.

Fortunately they use a public page that anyone can see. Strange. It didn't work for me. I went to Facebook and looked at their site, but there were no pi...

arthurk,
Thanks for the info. I'm not on Facebook so wouldn't have known.
Is this a sign that Lincs to the Past is being incorporated into the Lincolnshire Archives site? They used to be separate.
