Re: tips for sizing source pane?
Teresa, Back when FH7 first came out I played around with trying to make it look like FH6. I used a floating property box and a floating Sources For window to do this. See https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=19000#p113270 for a screen shot of what I was doing. I was never able to get ...

Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0
Glad you found the problem. I also use Norton 360 and didn't have the problem so I was curious what was causing it. I had Data Protector turned off, so that explains it.

If it is a Norton 360 problem, did you also try David Potter's suggestion?

Re: Addresses
I'm not sure these work quite so well: "On 15 Apr 1910 his occupation was given as Ag[ricultural] Lab[ourer] in Clarinda, Iowa." "On 15 Apr 1910 her occupation was given as Unpaid Domestic Duties in Clarinda, Iowa." I can't see anything wrong with those, if you're reporting what was said rather tha...

Re: Addresses
Some users like the Occupation to be analysed using consistent attribute values. Users also like the Narrative sentence in reports to be reasonable. So for them neither Ag[ricultural] Lab[ourer] nor Unpaid Domestic Duties suits both purposes. Whereas standardised Agricultural Labourer and Housewife...

I also do as John does. I always enter exactly what is in the source. I would even enter Ag Lab if that was what it said and then add a note if I felt I needed to explain what that meant.

I probably don't. I just copied it from another sentence definition that had it.

Re: Fact sentence starting with lower case
Mike and laz_gen, Thanks for your help. I have decided to change my sentence a bit. Now I have: {individual} enlisted in the military {date} {place}. <{=TextPart(GetLabelledText(%FACT.NOTE2%,"Service: "), 1, 0, TIDY)}> Now I am using the label "Service:" in my note. This allows me to have as many se...

Re: Lumped Source Splitter question
Another option is to display the new split sources in a Query. For example, if you are splitting the 1940 census, and you know each citation is linked to at least the census Fact, you could tabulate individuals, 1940 census, and source (assuming it is the first/only source). Work down the list, ame...

Re: Lumped Source Splitter question
From your description, it sounds like you do not have distinct Where within Source values for the various citations. In these circumstances, it may be simpler to add these prior to splitting, as it is easier to see what they relate to (but you will have to add them to all duplicates of the same cit...

Re: Lumped Source Splitter question
I think the problem there is that it could relate to many individuals with many different facts, but then a list might be useful. What I do is run plugin Where Used Record Links on the source which gives a full list of where the source is used, you can also click on many of the entries to take you ...

Re: Lumped Source Splitter question
It is easy to discover what the Source links to by using View > Citations to Source Record... command of the Where Used Records Links plugin. I know about that command and use it all the time. I guess I was just thinking that if there were hundreds of facts all with the same name, it would be a bit...

Lumped Source Splitter question
I tried the Lumped Source Splitter plugin and see that it could be very useful. I did have one issue with using it however. I was testing on a source with 10 links. After running the plugin I had 10 different sources all with the same name and found it a bit clumsy to try figuring out which individu...

Re: Fact sentence starting with lower case
BTW: The template relies upon that labelled note and if there is none then the 2nd sentence just says he resulting in: He enlisted in the military in October 1774. he I missed that. For now I will go with using "and" in the sentence as laz_gen suggested along with your modification to fix the probl...

Re: Fact sentence starting with lower case
Why not replace the ".<individual>" with the word "and" so it reads: He enlisted in the military in October 1774 and served in Lord Dunmore's War. {individual} enlisted in the military {date} <in {_place}> and <served {=TextPart(GetLabelledText(%FACT.NOTE2%,"Served: "), 1, 0, TIDY)}> That's a good ...

Fact sentence starting with lower case
I know I've seen this mentioned before, but for some reason I am not able to locate the posting. Nick,
Love the new tree view. This really makes selecting individuals for the census easy.
Thanks!

Re: Search and Replace plugin to delete text from all Note Record Types?
If you are sure you want to delete them all you can do that from the Records Window. Select the Notes tab and this will list all of the Note Records. To delete them all, select the first one, use the scroll bar to go to the bottom, and then hold down the shift key and select the last one. When they ...

Re: Ancestry's "Historical Newspapers, Birth, Marriage, & Death Announcements, 1851-2003"
I managed to remember that there are 2 major subscription based newspaper sites in the US. Newspapers.com which is in the same group as Ancestry. And NewspaperArchive.com, which isn't. This is a bit off topic, but there is another good newspaper site for the US, GenealogyBank.com. In my searching I...

An attempt to reverse an adoption can be made by the primary parties, including the biological parents, the adoptive parents, or the adopted child. In the case of the biological ...

You can select the ones that you want to merge and then use Edit > Merge/Compare Records to merge them. You can only merge two at a time.
