printing multiple marriage in diagram

Hi Roz, I've just tried to duplicate the situation using my own tree and may have found the problem. When I look at an ancestor who had 2 wives, the first is shown in her own box with normal details. The 2nd wife also has all correct details BUT there is a number 2 on the outside, top right corner o...

Private Notes - a question and a cautionary tale

I've just had a little surprise on this subject. I had inserted a Private note in square brackets against the Citation for a Death Registration as -> [[Death Cert ordered 16 Nov 2009]] However, when I came to print a Report where the individual was included, the note was present in the list of Sourc...

Birth re-registration

Yes - you can imagine the problems that occur when you find that a person's birth has been registered FIVE (5) times! One of my relatives was born before their parents married - so had 2 Register entries. However, there was a spelling mistake on the first entries, so there were a second pair of entr...

Entry of Event attendees

I've recently had the time to scan a few photos (10,000+) of my family and found quite a few of Weddings, parties and Christenings where there are (in some cases) 30+ family in a photo. In a series of photos, I've got a list of 50+ names for a couple of Weddings. Sadly, some of these images are the ...

Loss of Pictures

Hi Boswells, Hate to say it, but I have had similar problems recently BUT never when running Family Historian {V4}. I suspect that there have been some updates to Windows that have been the root of these problems. I've found that the best way to restore my sanity has been to run a defrag followed by...

Gedcom census flags

Hi Ajay, Unfortunately, the answer to your question depends upon which version of Windows you are running. On my Windows Vista machine the path to the main directory is -> C:ProgramDataCalico PieFamily Historian. Below this there are sub-directories for Icons, Flags, Queries etc. I don't have FH4 ru...

En bloc Import to Media Folder

Hi Jeremy, The easy answer is to create a new File structure within the Media folder you have already mentioned using Windows Explorer. Taking mine as an example, I have - Media - Census - (folders for each UK Census year 1841-1911),      - Certificates - {folders for Birth, Marriage, etc },      - ...

FH on 2 Computers

Hi Gareth,
You need to use 'external file links' from the Tools menu. Best to read up on the help first to get the idea of how to achieve the change of drive. . .

Hope this helps

Changed parents now can't enter dates??

Hi Barbara,

The calendar we are all using now is the Gregorian, and the box you have described is the correct place to enter the Birth Date.

It's possible a bit of confusion with the Julian calendar (which is another option for the Date entry assistant.

Hope this helps

Individual amp; family Queries

Hi Jenny, Just a thought - try it t'other way round. Create a FACT query and see if that supplies all known results. Sorry, I don't have any data which has been attached as you describe to both families and individuals - so I can't check. Hope this helps (& would be interested to know if it does )[s...

Hi Tim,
I bought my copy from S & N in Salisbury -> http://www.genealogysupplies.com/

Opening witht a selected person

Hi Roz, The easiest way to find the last person you entered data for would be to use the Records Window. If you add a column showing when each persons record was updated and sort this column descending, the person at the top will be the last one you entered data for. You can then select that person ...

General consideration of the effect of name change

Hi Chris, Unfortunately the identification of name changes will require a query of some sort to achieve anything like the detail that you have highlighted. Whether this is achieved by the programmer (Simon) and embedded within the program or is written & supplied as an add on is another matter. Howe...

Query to list items cited from Source

The method I outlined previously will also work with a 'Family' query - substitute =SourceLinks(['Source'],%FAM%) for =SourceLinks(['Source'],%INDI%). If you want to add names or other details to the results from the query, just click on the relevant tab on the left pane when viewing the Columns tab...

Query to list items cited from Source

When you run the query, it asks you for the source you wish to focus on and opens a box labelled 'Enter query parameters'. If you click on the little box with 3 dots another box opens labelled 'Select Source Record'. If you click on the column headed 'Citations' the Sources are listed in order of ma...

Query to list items cited from Source

Create a new 'Individual' query, add a column for the individual, then add another column with =SourceLinks(['Source'],%INDI%) . On the rows tab, enter 'Exclude if', =SourceLinks(['Source'],%INDI%), 'is less than', 1 (the number in the value box). When run, this query will ask for which source you w...

Hi Jackie, The easiest way I've found to confirm that a Census image is attached is via the ALL tab on the Property Box. Problem creating a query

Hi Viv, You could find which of your people have more than one name variant by copying the 'Name Variant' (& date) columns and modifying the expression like this -> NAMEVARIANT[2] for the second column(s). This will show you the second occurance for each person. If there are people with more than 2 ...

Version 4.02 and Vista SP2

One possibility that has come to mind is that there is an Anti-Virus program that controls program access involved in this somewhere. I have used Norton 360 for some time and that does occasionally give me silly problems such as this. Might I suggest that you try disabling the Firewall and/or other ...

Generation Number

Apologies,

I forgot to mention in my previous post that persons who are not related to the File Root will not have a number in the Gen column and those who are related and of the same generation will have a zero.
