Lost Expressions and Icons
I finally managed to get FH7 working only by uninstalling and reinstalling. Everything seems to be fine except that I have lost all my settings and customisations. No problem, I have backups and I have regularly used the Backup and Restore Settings plugin, though never for restoring. I tried that la...

Help! Can't open FH7!
I've downloaded the full version of FH7 (I had a CD of FH5 and an upgrade to FH6 but couldn't immediately find the registration numbers to get the discount, and I was impatient)! It downloaded and installed just fine as far as I could tell. I entered the Registration Key which was accepted but now I...

Re: In praise of named lists!
I recently made a breakthrough in my use of Named Lists and research logs or To Do lists. My ongoing frustration was due to the fact that everything in a Named List has to be linked to a named individual. There is nowhere in the program to record that I have today searched as far as p159 in the buri...

Re: Property Box - multiple instances in tabs?
To add a bunch of people to a Named list from a diagram or record window, select the boxes/records and then select "Edit>Add to Named List" from the menu. Ah, it's so easy when you know how! Thanks for the tip, Jane, I was fixated on the List button. Having the option in the Right Click menu would ...

Re: Property Box - multiple instances in tabs?
Populating the Named List from any window is not too difficult and follows a common theme... After choosing a record in say Focus or Diagram or Query window, open its Property Box . Click on the Go To Record button in the top toolbar (looks like a Records Window icon plus red arrow). That opens the...

Re: Add Historical details to narrative report
Hmm. I think I need to think some more about what I want to achieve, and then I think maybe I should wait to see what V7 offers us before putting too much effort into it. Thank you Mike!

Re: Add Historical details to narrative report
How about create Sources for all the historical events you need. Attach them to the relevant or new "history" fact(s). You can then reuse these whenever you want. I like this idea. I'm currently thinking about adding narrative timeline events to my tree. Is there a way to find, say, all my ancestor...

Re: Grave stones
I normally name my sources 'Death: <name> d<year>' but realised if I used this for the grave stone I could end up with two sources with the same name although different Type. I name my source in exactly the same way, and simply attach any evidence of death to this one source : death certificate, ne...

Google Tasks is also cross-platform, and synchs with Gmail and Google Calendar. I prefer to 'print' my Named Lists plus notes and save them to Google Keep or Dropbox.

Re: Adding Census Fact to Husband only
Way back in the dim and distant past, before I routinely used AS, I manually entered some census records as Family Events to save time. I know they are there and keep meaning to correct them, but can no longer remember which families or records were involved. Is there any way to identify them?

Re: Using expressions
Expressions to display age at death icons seem straightforward and I may get round to implementing them some day. I suspect that my death in war/military service icon is more complex as the only common factor is the death. There is nothing in the citation, source title or text to connect a civilian ...

Re: Using expressions
Just to update you, Mike, after your very helpful post of May 9th. I use Method 1, and most of the entries were made using Ancestral Sources. Canadian and US sources have the name of the country in the title of the citation so I have been able to use your second suggestion. UK censuses mostly do not...

Re: Using expressions
Mike, you have a big heart! Your efforts here are remarkable. I have already made a successful start on replacing my census flags with expressions but have run into a problem. I use coloured icons to differentiate between locations: buff for UK censuses, blue for US and red for Canadian censuses. I ...

Re: Using expressions
Mike, that is brilliant! Thank you so much! Little coloured dots all the way to the very tops of the trees!
And thank you for explaining it all in (relatively) simple language. Now to tackle censuses and certificates. I may be back!

Re: Using expressions
I've learnt a lot from this thread, and I think my query follows on from this discussion. I like to work from a diagram, and in the past have set flags to attach icons to boxes so I can see all sorts of details at a glance. For example, I have flags to show a different coloured icon for paternal and...

I can see Mike's map very nicely in Firefox 35.0, and click on the links. Very impressive! I shall need another three lifetimes to get to grips with all these new advances AND sort out the family tree at the same time.

Re: Evernote Plugin?
Just jumping back in to this thread to update Jane on my progress. What with visitors and the moving of the FHUG website, I lost track of this. I downloaded the latest version of the Plugin and have been trying it out today with complete success! No crashes, and the notes are all successfully synced...

Evernote Plugin?
More experimentation. I turned off SugarSync, and at first that seemed to solve the problem as I was able to create several notes both from my own project and the sample project. I was also able to get some of them to sync in Evernote. However I noticed that the notes that were synced (both from my ...

Evernote Plugin?
I've just noticed that Evernote has created a special folder called Unsynced Notes and has put all my notes in there! All except this one odd one which has stayed in the Genealogy folder. No amount of pressing the Sync button has made those notes sync.

Sorry Jane, I'm totally ignorant of programming and have absolutely no idea what you mean by 'running the code in the editor and step through it to see when it fails'. Nor would I be able to tell if the html.temp file has a fault. Tatewise, your idea of using the Sample Project is a good one. I trie...

Thanks for the feedback, Jane and Tatewise. There is a # and a & in my Project Name, and 'Auto-load Thumbnail Images When Opening Project' is ticked. I don't know how long it takes to load these thumbnails, but FH had been running a few minutes when I used the plug-in, and it didn't crash the firs...

Evernote Plugin?
This could potentially be very useful, Jane. For example, working on my iPad at the record office, when I can't run FH but can access Evernote via wi-fi. (Currently I use a Named List in FH for research/to do notes, print a copy to PDF and store it in Dropbox, which has the advantage that I can ac...
