Changing Surnames

I tend to give everyone in the family a 'common' surname where there are many variants and put the variants in as other names used. For example I have made the common name BRAZIER which is the one used in the present day and list the variants as BRASIER,BRAISHER,BRAYSHER,BRAZIAR,BRAYZER,BRAYZIER etc,...

Places

I also want to do this .I tried using notes for a place but could not link to any pictures. This would be very useful as a place can be just as important as a person.Just a thought maybe you could make a record of a place instead of a person and keep some of the info like that?[grin]

To be honest I don't care

I find the research fun.Tracking down elusive ancestors, working how to find someone in unlikely places and then getting the right 'hit'.Brilliant!!![grin]

Conventional Wisdom

I enter the christening/baptism date in the correct field and then put that year as an approximation in the born box as sometimes christenings are not always near the birth!

Pedigree charts (Version 3 does not fully implemen

I have never actually done this but you could create a record for individuals who do not yet exist maybe just putting male or female so that when you see a diagram the boxes show up and you can fill in details when you get them? Just a thought.[grin]

All ancestors-one page print?

I also have Family Tree by GSP and I did an ancestry chart for my tree and it stretched over 8 sheets (portrait).I also tried it on one page and it was too small to see.I think with any diagram it will depend on how many ancestors etc you have and how much information you want in each box.I still th...

moved linked files

I am now wondering if it would be better to embed the photos and other images instead of linking to external files as I constantly move things around.I know this takes more space but if you save FH on cdrom  it should not be too bad (I save it on an external hard drive at the moment). How would this ...
