Android phone for field research

Yes I know but I cannot open it on my Android and I discovered, accidentally, that I could not open it on the Dropbox website and I wondered if the two things are related. I cannot understand why other files, for example PDF and JPG, are associated in Dropbox on the web and my Android, but GEDCOM fi...

Jane

It's not the file in the Dropbox folder on my PC, which works fine - it's when I logon to Dropbox and try to open that file.

Android phone for field research

Simon I too have an Android phone and installed Dropbox and Family Bee. However, I cannot get one or the other to recognise the GEDCOM file and I have had to install OI File Manager on my Android to be able to open the GEDCOM file. I have been in contact with the developer of Family Bee says that th...

Notes Field

Thank you tatewise, that is what I wanted to do. I did look in the help but I did not look in the census template editor help - because I searched on 'notes' and it does not come up.  The Ancestral Sources options did come up but I did not scroll down after I reached Occupation Facts.  So I agree wi...

Notes Field

Thank you for explaining why this is happening. I can see some merit in displaying the value of the field as a note but not the heading of the field as some US censuses become, in my view, quite ugly e.g.: General nature of industry, business or establishment: Own shop Whether employer, employee, or...

Notes Field

Nick I have just discovered that the employment status in the 1891 and 1901 UK censuses appears in the note field in full e.g. from 1901 'Employer, Worker or Own account: Employer'  It might also happen for 1911 but I don't have too many of those.  It also seems to happen for US censuses but for the...

.NET Framework update fails to install properly

Jan If it helps I currently seem to have the following versions of .NET framework installed: Framework 1.1 Framework 2.0 SP2 Framework 3.0 SP2 Framework 3.5 SP1 However the 1.1 version does not seem to have a file size with it so I am not sure if it actually present. As I say I cannot remember how I...

.NET Framework update fails to install properly

I had this same problem (also on XP SP3).  After many abortive attempts I succeeded by totally removing all versions of the .NET framework and then reinstalling them one at a time.  I think I rebooted my machine after each version. I know it took most of one Sunday morning to fix it. I do recall tha...

What shall I do next?

Now that Ancestry have added Probate Records could you consider raising the priority of these?

US Censuses

Nick I almost agree with you (about leaving 'None' blank) but I have seen for the same family some members as having 'None' and others as having a blank in the occupation box so there must be some subtle difference, at least in the minds of US census enumerators in the 1920/30 censuses. I think that...

US Censuses

Nick A fairly trivial point but I have been using AS to add a number of US census entries (First can I say what a wonderful job you have done with the text schemes for each year.) But, and there is always a but, many of the occupation boxes contain the word 'None', which I assume to be somewhat diff...

Missing Birth Certificate

There is a Hawsworth in Leeds (I went to school there and I'm not sure there was much there in 1911) but I think this is the Hawksworth near Guiseley. I think his birth is indexed on both Yorkshire BMD and FreeBMD. Yorkshire BMD Clifford Elsworth 1911 Yeadon, Leeds (YEAD/64/294) and FreeBMD Clifford...

Flags

Nick Just for the record I did not change any associations but AS definitely did set all the same flags in duplicate and I did not receive any error messages. (It was easy to spot because they were in correct and reverse chronological order.) I deleted all the census flags in FH (which took about th...

Flags

Nick

I think I have resolved the issue. I deleted all census flags and then carried out a flag check using AS. It has added all the flags and the icons on diagrams. It is also working correctly for new entries so everything seems to be OK.

Flags

Nick

I have used my existing flag names but I don't understand your sentence about deleting 'the other flag associations'

I believe I have only one association (with my existing flags for each census.

Flags

Nick First can I add my thanks to those of others for the fantastic work you are doing. I am having some problems with flags.  I have set up my existing flags but there seems to be two problems. One - when I run a flag check AS wants to reset all the flags which duplicates all the flags set in FH. S...

Saving Images in GC

Nick Thanks.  That might be the reason as, although I have used FH4 since it was released, it is only recently that I have started adding census data again (I have been busy adding BMD data,) so GC may still be remembering the last time I added census data.  I will ensure that I add data for every c...

Saving Images in GC

I am using FH 4.0.2 and GC 6.0.6 I have transferred my census image files from the original folder used with FH 3 into an FH Project media folder but I have used exactly the same sub-directories under media as I had with FH3. When I come to save an image file GC sometimes automatically picks the cor...

Hi

My file is just over 2 meg and I got this message

One answer to your question is given at http://www.eset.com/products/compare-NOD32-vs-competition.php I know that this is the marketing page of a competitor but it is probably close to the truth. Yet again it seems to be that you get what you pay for. Note I have no connection with ESET but I have j...

I agree that it does look like a slot between the Y and W. Why is there what appears to be a 5 to the right of the W?

Do you recognise this car?

Sorry I replied on the other thread before I saw the photo. I believe that there is a letter behind the starting handle of the car, this will be crucial in determining where the car was registered as it is the last two letters that were important. My belief is based in the fact that in old registrat...

details on census returns

I have often thought that it would be useful if FH had an additional qualifier for a date of birth, namely 'Derived from Census data' or something similar. I never know, when census data is the only source of a birth event, which of the three existing qualifiers to use. For consistency I always use ...
