I thought it should do that but it isn't. It always reverts to the last used.

I have developed the problem of AS not going to the correct image folder but to the previous one used. I am using AS 3.2.3 and FH 5.0.9 on Windows 8 The box to remember file location is ticked and the file structure is Project FolderMediacensusyear Immediately after I converted to Windows 8 AS also ...

It's definitely working OK now. I think I know how I might have lost the project file. I recently upgraded to a new PC. In doing so I changed to the position of the Dropbox folder in my file structure. I remember that FH did work OK on the new machine but I realised that many of the settings were m...

Mike Yes the title bar bar did say Family Historian Gedcom. But it does make a difference. I created a project in FH using File>Project Window>New Project and AS now works correctly and the title bar says Family Historian Project. I don't think it's a bug in either FH or AS but could something be do...

It says
mediaSource recordsCensus1891Kendall George Ripon.jpg
Mike
I have tried on my laptop running Windows7 and I have the same problem
I keep all the files in Dropbox and I have discovered that the project file is missing. This could well be the problem. How do I recreate it?

Yes I am using Method 1
There are no X's against any file when I check Work with External File Links.
The only difference I can see is where I have the files stored the folder is called > and AS seems to be looking for > but I cannot see how to change it
Would this be the problem?

There is a linked image. It displays quite happily when I look at the original census entry.
I have now manually linked the new source to the existing image.
But AS still acts in the way I described.

I am trying to link an existing image for a census entry. When I do so I get the error message 'The file specified for this image does not exist and therefore can not be viewed' If I try to use the link new image option I get the message 'This image is already linked in the GEDCOM file and so can'...

I also had no problem with the download, using Firefox.
I did have problems uploading my GEDCOM file but these have now been resolved.

Finally I have got it to work. For the record I had no UDF records, a few were out of sequence so that might have been the problem.
As you said it is a very slow process although I never got the not responding message.

If there is a 'weakness' in my data how do I find it given that the validate function says that everything is OK? Is not the weakness in FH?
Have you adjusted the timeouts on your machine? I get the error within a few seconds of trying to open the book.

FH crashes when trying to open a book
I spoke too soon!
I am trying to create a book with about 1,500 individuals in it. I can create it without an index. As soon as I try to add an index FH crashes.
I can create smaller books with an index. Is there a bug?

FH crashes when trying to open a book
I have realised that all the books I had were made when I was beta testing v5. I have deleted them all and now it is working OK.
Thank you.
Thank you.

The book opens OK in the sample project so it does seem to be something I have done. Any ideas? (I have validated the file and there are no errors.) Would the error report help?

Thanks. Tried that but still the same.
I remember this did happen when I was beta testing v5 but I assumed the problem had been fixed.

Every time I try to open or create a new book FH is crashing. Is this a bug or something specific to me?

Yes constantly. If you know that parish of birth then the Hugh Wallis site still works (even though Ancestry have now taken it over because they realised that searches that used to produce results on IGI no longer work). Take a look at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGI...

I think your proposed solution for those who do not use countries is better than Steve's of using the home country as default.
But I do agree with Steve about keeping up your excellent work.

Map Life Facts Chapman/County/State Abbreviations
Mike Yes I realise now that Chapman does include both Northern Ireland and the Republic so no problem there. I think adding country code does resolve the problem because all codes lower than the country must be unique. I am making the assumption that the country would always be included. I always wo...

Map Life Facts Chapman/County/State Abbreviations
Mike Yes please I would welcome this as I use Chapman Codes. I think all your suggestions are fine with me. Just for clarity I would include the current Republic of Ireland with the ancient county codes but I assume you did intend to do this. The one thing you have missing are country codes, other ...

Mike Like others I think what you have written is excellent and puts together in one place lots of related information. You asked for ideas on the title. With the existing title I would expect an explanation of what the many (and varied) features of FH actually do. I think what you have written is...

I also had problems with Family Bee on an Android Phone. I even sent my GEDCOM file to FAmily BEe and they said it was fine. I came to the conclusion that Family Bee did not like the very long file path that FH produces. When I moved the GEDCOM file up the path it works perfectly. It's just a nuisan...
