Help me get started with limited info - please!

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to say that Jan's (JMurphy) advice in the 2nd post is as good as it gets. Looking back over my own first year of floundering, then my 2nd year of starting to get the gist, Jan has eloquently and completely presented everything I needed to know and am only just now beginnin...

Trouble accessing the Tutorial files?

Sorry for not responding sooner. I wandered away for a bit. In fact, I couldn't solve this problem so in frustration gave up on it. I tried opening the Getting the Most... Tutorial again with the same result. If I have the trial tree opened or closed, when I try to open the Manual, I get 'Unable to o...

Trouble accessing the Tutorial files?

Hi Everyone, I can't seem to figure out how to open the tutorials from the help menu. I walked through the 'You don't have Adobe Acrobat 5.0 installed' bit. (I now have it & 2 more recent versions of Adobe reader installed, which is an excess I don't need.) But I cannot seem to get past that point. ...

Please bear with a beginner

Hi & thanks, I went for a walk, came back fresh, read what you suggested & see what you mean. That was the problem. I had both open at the same time and hadn't done the 'save' in FH. Now I understand. Isn't it amazing how dumb you can feel when you are learning something new? I really appreciate you...

Please bear with a beginner

Hi all, I have been learning how to add a Census using GedComCensus. There just seems to be something I am not understanding? I have done it successfully but on a couple of occasions, no records show up in FH? I think I must be misunderstanding the prompts at the end. Do I close GC and then go over ...

Trouble downloading GedCom Census?

Thanks Jane, I use Foxfire & my cache is set to delete each time I disconnect, so that wasn't the problem. Oddly, on my 3rd try it came in fine. I made one change in procedure: I opened the file before I saved it. Whether that was what worked or whether the connection was just less shaky, who knows....

Trouble downloading GedCom Census?

Hi everyone, I am brand new here & a new user of Family Historian. Here is my first question. I am working my way though the How to Tutorials. I was about to start on the 'Entering a Census' one. I attempted twice to download GedCom Census. Each time, when I tried to open it, I was told the file was...
