Residence to Co-residence

Thanks. I'll give some thought about which option to use.
The Q arises from having to move 'unrecognised data' imported from 'Pedigree' program in which it is separately entered. Maybe I'll continue with that arrangement.

Residence to Co-residence

Spouse-1 of a couple is entered, with residences, before the marriage is known about. Later, spouse-2 is added and it is discovered that the couple co-resided at some or all of addresses known about for spouse-1. Is there a quick way of converting spouse-1 residences from an 'individual' attribute t...

Data Entry - Addresses

In Property Dialogue / Events / Residence are the fields for 'Place' and 'Address'. Each box has a button with three dots. Clicking the 'Place' box button a list of all places previously entered appears and, if required, an address can be chosen for repetition - saving retyping. One would expect a s...

Data Entry Assistant

The Events Data Entry Assistant enables dates dd/mm/yyyy to be entered and then there is a slash / followed by two more boxes one large, t'other smaller which is followed by B.C. What are the boxes after the slash for and what does B.C. mean in this context? I've not found a reference in the manual ...

GEDCOM import from Pedigree

I should have said that Elton55 is used with the Windows-like version of Pedigree - PediTree - and it is via this route one gets to the Export as GEDCOM 5.5 - it cannot be done from the earlier DOS based versions of Pedigree.

GEDCOM import from Pedigree

I think the problem has been solved, with the help of Murray Kennedy of Pedigree. It is necessary to be familiar with Pedigree and its later versions to fully understand the following. Pedigree has had different database formats, i.e. 'Families', 'Census' and Elton55'. Data can only be saved as Gedc...

GEDCOM import from Pedigree

Thanks for that Jane, I''l take you up on the offer when I've got the FH V3. I have tried importing XXX.GEd from Pedigree and changing some of the attributes, in a similar way to your suggestion, but fail to get MS-Word to save the edited file as a .GED file. (Well I can call it that but FH doesn't ...

Data validation and error checking

Simon, you're right. My apologies for the confusion. I was treating the properties box entries as all to do with Jean Clare Anderson (even though I've read almost all of the manual) - lack of familiarity while testing. You're also right about future dates - though I would have thought that trapping ...

GEDCOM import from Pedigree

Hello Jane, I've just seen this old message - but it is relevant to me as i am about to transfer from Pedigree. I've tried the demo and get the same sorts of results as John Athersuch. What is the position now - I tried the demo with Pedigree import 2 days ago and still wonder what I'll need to do t...

Dates: More Comments [Demo version of Family Historian] Enter a date of an event later than ‘today’ (i.e. the computer’s current date) in the ‘Properties’ box– and, using the ‘tab’ key or moving from the box using a mouse, the date is accepted – e.g. enter Died: 21 Aug 2010 – date accepted. Wish list: Comments on the following are in the list: Make it easier to enter accent characters Rating: Positive 31 Negative 0 Using the Alt-key + Numeric keypad with the info from this website will do many of them quickly – and probably obviate the need for an addition to the FH program. http://www...

Data validation and error checking

I am considering transferring my Pedigree data to Family Historian and have tried the demo version 2.3 of the latter. I've used 'illegal' dates - child born before mother and after mother's death, but have found no data validation or error checking procedure in the program. For an individual, if dea...

Foreign and other characters:
The Alt-key + numeric-keypad is the thing to use.
Have a look at http://www.tedmontgomery.com/tutorial/ALTchrc.html for a complete list.
