Re: Rich Text font detection
Oh that was interesting. I had very few - only one report was for a real Rich Text - a pasted report sourced from a Word document. The rest were empty Segoe UI things. It did prove tricky to find some of the items - when double clicking on the 2nd column for these, I couldn't see any text of any sor...

Re: Problem with Paste Unformatted Text
I just tried pasting via Notepad++ and similarly ended up with "Segoe UI Symbol" fonts. Can I suggest an alternative avenue, which may show up my lack of understanding of fonts? Are the ├── characters actually in whatever FH is using as its UI font? Or are they only in "Segoe UI Symbol", in which ca...

Option to change behaviour of Ctrl+V shortcut
Background If I copy text from certain websites and paste it using Ctrl+V into a note in FH, the success is entirely problematic. The classic cases are FreeBMD and the GRO site BMD indexes. FreeBMD works pretty much OK, albeit with some extra link words that can easily be removed. Otherwise, the re...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
Okay - that seems fine, Helen. Re the last bit about the separate request to adjust Ctrl V behaviour. I remember now why I wrote adjust according to origin. If I set Ctrl V to Paste Unformatted, in order to tame the GRO indexes, I would only want that Paste Unformatted to apply when pasting from out...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
... I'd have no issue with having an option to always paste text plainly. Surely that's what we're suggesting when we've said there needs to be a 'no rich text' mode? Not sure now if that's agreed - Helen (sorry!) seemed to be arguing that it could cause issues if the paste was meant to be rich but...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
But I do want the ability to alter what Ctrl+V does, via the default setting proposed. There, I am not with you. Many of us know Ctrl-V to mean "dump whatever is on the clipboard into the application and let the application sort out what it all means" - I would not want to change that. Likewise, sl...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
Adrian, I think we're all in vigorous agreement that Paste Unformatted is essential and needs a keyboard shortcut. Except that... I don't mind Paste Unformatted having it's own shortcut. Re: Plain Text Only setting
Couple of things to be explicit - I want the ability to alter the default for Ctrl+V and - whatever else Mike identified - not just the ability to choose at paste time. I hope that's already clear but if not... Secondly, I do run into occasional issues where what I thought was a plain text note, acq...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
At the very least, we should be able to configure the default paste to be either "Paste Unformatted Text" or "Paste" - where the latter is presumably "paste formatted". This is, after all, analogous to to Microsoft's options of "Keep Text only", "Merge Formatting" and "Keep Source Formatting". (And ...

Re: Using XML vs Gedcom to store data
I have to say that I'm worried about what a Citation is - i.e. how to identify it and therefore how to detect the "duplicates". I have this suspicion that Method 1 Splitters have no real interest in detecting duplicates. Take this typical Source / Citation from me: Screenshot 2022-12-09 134546.jpg T...

Re: Using XML vs Gedcom to store data
The reality is that GEDCOM and XML are just methods of plumbing. Meh. Calico Pie couldn't cut loose from GEDCOM and exploit XML as a new, green field, plumbing mechanism because they'd still need to be able to read GEDCOM files and store the data in the new XML format, and vice versa. Hence one coul...
