Re: Project Window - simple alteration
... When a Project name is selected the Open Project button is enabled and perhaps the New Project button disabled. Clicking the selected Project name could deselect it and return the two buttons to their original state. With that change, the New Project button can only be invoked when no Project n...

Re: Royal Navy Ranks
Several options David, as you've worked out and Mike has said. My view would be that it very much depends on what you want to do with your data. Having an occupation of "Petty Officer", with a start date set to the promotion date, is perfectly feasible if you just have a couple of guys with that sor...

Re: Robert Brent M.D. (1819-1872)
I'd be a touch dubious about the need for army permission to marry angle - it depends on what sort of a soldier (if any) he was at the time of the first marriage. If he was a physician in the Regular Army, then it would sound like a distinctly possible thing. But if we're going off the later referen...

Re: Robert Brent M.D. (1819-1872)
My feeling is that this is not unknown - I've seen several people posting similar cases and my own 3G-GF (Thomas Pleass) married his second wife (Ann Meredith) twice - some 6 months apart (1 Jan 1828 at St. John's, Bedminster, and 15 July 1828, St. Philip & St. Jacob, Bristol). I can see nothing odd...

Re: Residence
... It seems to me that it wouldn't be particularly difficult for a narrative report to see that all the residence records over a period of time are for the same location and combine them into a sentence such as 'between 1st May 1842 and 7th April 1898' she was living at...'. ... That would be good...

Re: Residence
I tend to create a single fact with a date range when I'm getting several repeats of the "same" place and address - it simplifies the data by removing the repeats in favour of a single fact. That said, if the repeat covers a considerable amount of time, then I find I sometimes can't see the current ...

Re: Enhancement to the Citations to Source Records command
There is a "gotcha" with this, as I found when trying to locate the citations for my great-aunt's birth. How do you define an identical citation? At the moment that "Show Source Record's Citations" shows the citations as they would be if printed . Currently my (printed) Citation Details for Generic ...

Re: Citation Template Fields
I think I'd agree with Helen's approach - "Where within" is where within the source that you've consulted. "Source of the Source" describes the origin of the source that you're looking at and (to me) the "Where within" might have zero relevance to the "Source of the Source" - they're pointing at two...

But when you say the source/citation is 'misleading' , it isn't misleading about the source and how to access it; the place named in the source may not be the place of birth, but it's definitely the place of registration ... ... this feels to me as if you're using Source records for more than just identifying the source and where it can be found. Updating Source Template Fields already populated - issues
Background - See the thread https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=132813#p132813 I raised in that thread the topic of updating the definitions of source template fields when they are already populated in linked source records. Mark Draper's comment (which I agree with) was that the issues de...

There may be a more appropriate thread but... When updating source templates that have been used for existing source records, isn't there a bigger issue than just updating (maybe) the Source Title? Re: FH7 & Evidenced Explained Questions
One take-away from recent discussions here is that if you wish to use Evidence Explained style Source Lists (known as Bibliographies in FH), then the contents of the Source Lists must appear in the Source Records and not in the Citation-specific Details. This is done in the Source Template Field Def...
