Re: List All Citations for a Source error

In any case, the plugin is somewhat redundant as FH V7 now has the View > Citations to Source Record... command which lists more information. Am I missing something? Ever keen to get rid of obsolete stuff (instead of doing real work), I just ran both PlugIn and View > Citations to Source Record... ...

Re: de facto etc parental relationships...

In the case of an official adoption, I agree, however, the particular examples I have in my tree are from the late 19th century when it was a de facto relationship, with nothing official having taken place. ... Interesting - I admit that I treat both formal and informal adoptions the same, with jus...

Re: de facto etc parental relationships...

Thanks, Mike - I'll definitely have a go at doing that :) ... The parental relationships are definitely the starting point, but before you try and squeeze everything out of data reference %INDI.FAMC.PEDI% in narrative reports, you might ponder whether you also need more. Certainly with a relationsh...

Re: Documents of Fact vs Event Facts

I'd agree with Mike. The whole tenor of the GEDCOM specification is that it records events such as birth, marriage and death and I believe that is standard practice - therefore that is what most people will expect to see. Altering principles like that carries a risk of misinterpretation. There are o...

Re: War and Service records

Helen and I tend to approach stuff in a source record from different angles. Rightly or wrongly, I would characterise hers as a minimalist approach, viz: the objective of identifying the specific source beyond doubt I add to that, for my own purposes, a lot more analysis that says, in effect, "OK, n...

Re: Kent Family History Society (KFHS) copyright breach!

There have been a number of times with Find A Grave where I've found an entry for an ancestor ... only to later realise this is just someone uploading burial records from the parish register. Yes this means they were buried there, but there's no grave stone ... Yeah. What don't they understand abou...

Re: Divisions in York Electoral Registers

Try looking at the front of that part of the Register. Things seem to be rather more variable in registers than I had originally anticipated but the Crewe constituency had a ward in 1918 with the introduction (paraphrasing): Division 1 contains the names of those entitled to vote in both parliamenta...

Re: Question on image metadata - date + keywords

Since I really like metadata, this issue rang a bell with me. It looks like we've been here before with what FH metadata import actually supports. If it's at all useful, see https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=12761 The thread appears to have a lengthy subplot that's nothing to do wit...

Re: Connecting multiple copies of same source database

Bear in mind that while two sites may start with identical collections, it is possible that they diverge over time. For instance, when FMP loaded the Cheshire Parish Registers (indexes and images), they used images from FamilySearch films and FS were contracted to provide the indexes, working from t...

Re: Duplicate old and new Marriage Registers

I think that I've seen at least one Cheshire parish keep the old and new format marriage registers going - but only for a few years, IIRC. As it wasn't one of my main parishes, I just put it down as a quirk - I didn't do things like check the signatures. Although I do wonder if I'm getting mixed up ...

Re: How to record slaves in Family Historian

It is possible to create "Name Only" witnesses. These are entered as Witnesses but, if marked as "Name Only", have no individual record, only a "name". Because they have no individual record, pretty much anything can go into a "Name Only" witness' "name". For instance, the "name" could contain the t...

In my generic sources I have ignored anything not in the source - ie, the equivalent of your option 1.
