Re: More query queries

If your Attribute filter is against its text value then that should be possible if the umber of instances is tiny. I assume it is an Individual type Query , so you need a Row for each Attribute and each possible instance. Similarly, if the Shared Note filter is against its text content, and only at ...

Re: More query queries

Think about matching text fields in the Source or Repository rather than selecting the record. i.e. the SOUR.TITL or SOUR.ABBR or REPO.NAME fields. Then the user can enter the text to match or * wildcard as before. The Query filter will use %...SOUR[1]>TITL% or %...SOUR[1]>ABBR% or %...SOUR[1]>REPO>...

OR in the Records Window on the Sources tab, right-click on any unused area of main pane and choose New Source.
This technique works for any type of record.

You don't explain the objective of the script in that last posting so it is difficult to review it. How does it deal the crucial problem of multiple Wars per person? Regarding the web site server going casters up , see 17000|FHUG website slow . Anyway tsoHost are based in the UK so BREXIT has no imp...

Re: Ancestors by Generation Narrative: exclude spouse and children for the focus person

I have found a solution to hiding your focus/root person's Spouse and Children details. Set the Living Flag on each of them and in the Report > Options > Privacy tab, tick the Show basic details only for Individuals where this flag is set: Living option. If you prefer, you can use the Private Flag a...

Re: Ancestors by Generation Narrative: exclude spouse and children for the focus person

The numbers are cross-references between the main Ancestors and the lists of Children so their details are not repeated. I assume the underlying data in the document you plan to edit is the Sentences for the Facts of Children you want to exclude. I suggest you do that in a temporary Copy of your Pro...

Re: Ancestors by Generation Narrative: exclude spouse and children for the focus person

Lorna's advice explains the available Options perfectly well. BUT the Child ... and Non-Ancestral Spouse ... settings apply to all generations and not just those of the focus/root person. There are no other settings that would only apply to the focus/root person. The only other possibility involves ...

Re: sorting tables by v

I have tried the integer keyed table of records using table.insert(...) and table.sort(...) , etc, and it works fine. I see that using War + Name as the key, with the Penlight table sorting would work. But that needs Ron to embrace the Penlight library. Also, he is seeking a generalised solution tha...

Re: Duplicate Spouse Records

I suspect that when using AS you used Add Spouse to create Louisa Newton for both Census entries. For the second Census you should have selected the existing Spouse of William Chandler . To rectify matters you need to merge the two Family records for William and Louisa . So in the Records Window on ...

Re: sorting tables by v

He needs to use the basic integer key technique. He cannot use the Record Id as key, because some Individuals are involved in more than one War . So in those cases the table needs an entry for each War with other details such as Name and Sex replicated. That is because he wants to primarily sort by ...

Re: sorting tables by v

Yes, that should work :) Why not just run that experimental script and debug the RCD table contents? BUT ensure you use local RCD = { } otherwise it is more difficult to find in the debug pane. Not sure why Helen says " table.insert adds it -- but you can't know where ". table.insert(...) uses the n...

Re: sorting tables by v

You are correct that the WAR={WW2, Korea, Vietnam}; structure in a record will complicate sorting by WAR. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to solve your detailed design issues. You have the Lua principles for constructing and sorting records, and used them successfully in 16977|Table Manners , s...

Re: sorting tables by v

The key in your design is the record number. That number must be consistent in all your separate tables, otherwise you cannot associate the table entries with each other. Once you have worked out where the key is incremented, then that is where the empty tblGED record is created. The questions to an...

Re: sorting tables by v

My option 2) explains all that. I thought that when I say use " table.insert( tblRec, { } ) to create an empty record." could not be any clearer. So use table.insert( tblGED, { } ) I have no idea what RCD is in your scripts. It is certainly not valid Lua. Use tblGED[#tblGED].NAME = Name instead of t...

Re: sorting tables by v

You can approach this two ways. 1) Keep your separate tables and just compose the sortable records to produce the printable output. local tblRec = { } for i = 1, #tblName do table.insert( tblRec, { Name=tblName[i]; Sex=tblSEX[i]; War=tblWar[i]; } end table.sort( tblRec, function(a, b) if a.War == b....

Re: sorting tables by v

I find it difficult to understand your method, but it is not the usual way of performing Lua table sorting. Instead of all those separate tblName , tblSex , ... , tblOTH tables you should use just one table of records. i.e. table.insert( tblRec, { Name=Name; Sex=sex; ... ; War=WAR; ... ; Other=OTH; ...

Re: sorting tables by v

We covered the sorting techniques in 16977|Table Manners . You must use one tblX with record fields for Name , Sex , Dates , etc, etc. i.e. table.insert( tblX, { Name=...; Sex=...; Dates=...; etc } ) table.sort(tblX, function(a, b) return a.Name < b.Name end) should work as long as it is a numerical...

I find that the FH Map Window does not geocode either 2-letter nor 3-letter country codes very well. The Map Life Facts Plugin uses the Google Geocoding Service that does recognis...

In the Diagram > Options > Text tab most standard Text Schemes show Alternate Names as a.k.a. names. e.g. Any of the Birth, Marr, Death ... schemes or Name, Dates ... schemes. If you use Edit Text Scheme the standard Item is Name (a.k.a) Data . There is also an Adoption Event you can add.

OSM Roads only has maps for Europe, and only at some zoom levels, so if the Map Window is not focussed on markers in Europe, or zoomed too far out or too far in, then just that yellowish background is displayed. I have to admit that I do not understand the purpose of OSM Roads because OpenStreetMap...
