Place and Address References
I agree that Reports only include a subset of the Repository Information but it is very EASY to switch on and is better than nothing. It is possible to insert more than one Telephone number, Email address, or Website URL into the one field of each type that is included in a Report. An important poin...

Mangled Hyperlinks in Reports and Websites
Peter, as I mentioned in my post, PDF File Reports often cope well with complex URL but try http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=S10+2FW and it will fail if it is followed by an end of sentence full-stop. The main problem is with the Web Page (HTML) Report and Internet > Create a Website options. Jane, ...

Mangled Hyperlinks in Reports and Websites
Each Repository Record offers a Website URL field, but you may enter an Internet URL in any free text field. When using Save Report As or Create a Website any URL in a field should become a Hyperlink (except for the Text File option). Very simple URL such as http://www.freebmd.org.uk usually work OK...

Thank you for your comments Peter. I did not intend to imply that the Email and Web Site fields were in the GEDCOM 5.5 standard, but simply supported by FH4 . I was aware that the sub-fields may be added to Reports and Diagrams as you describe. (I had overlooked the Record Columns option). However, ...

How do you organise sources on your PC
I forgot to mention that I use A.S. (and G.C. before) to auto-name the Multimedia Census Records from their File-names, and hope to continue with other event types as they are added to A.S.
Thank you Nick for this excellent add-on for FH.

Place and Address References
This thread discusses the Place and Address fields for Facts with the same location. I know there are various Wish List entries on this topic, but I want to work with FH4 as it is now. Instead of duplicating Address details in each Fact related to the same location, I want to create one set of data ...

Try the following settings. (1) Use Diagrams > Options > Pictures tab, and ensure Preference = 1st and try Shrink Large Pictures = To height of box . (2) Select the diagram boxes that should contain pictures and use Diagrams > Box States > Autosize Box . You may then have to use Diagrams > Pages, Ro...

How do you organise sources on your PC
Just to add to the previous posts, here are my naming conventions. I use a set of Windows Folders within the FH Project Media Folder in a similar way to the earlier posts. The choice of Folders is somewhat personal, and can be changed at a later date with the help of FH > Tools > Work with External ...

Ancestral Sources - Baptisms
I hope I am not too late to influence the development of Ancestral Sources Baptism events and subsequent events. Most of what you propose is excellent, although I would prefer GRO BMD events to come further up your priority list, as they would support the existing Census events, because they cover a...

Hi Nick, Thanks for your comprehensive response. I did not expect any of the Wish List items to be rectified soon, but I thought it worthwhile logging my ideas while still fresh in my mind. Here are the places where folder locations are not remembered: Census > Census Templates > Export & Import but...

Best format for scanned documents?
Don't forget that if you send the zipped up Project folder to somebody else they will need Family Historian to be able to make best use of the information. If they do not have a fully licensed version, then they can download and install the free Family Historian Read-only Demo version. The only draw...

V4.1.3 Source Pane text errors
You are correct Jane, that I am NOT using default fonts. My Tools > Preferences > Property Box Fonts are set to: Text: Arial, Regular, 10pt Alter the Text font to Arial Narrow or 9pt or 12 pt, and the missing text returns, which I can live with. A bit more experimentation gave the following results....

V4.1.3 Source Pane text errors
I have just updated and installed Family Historian V4.1.3. If I open any Individual or Family Property Box and display the Source Pane then some of the field headings are faulty. 'Assessment' is partially obscured by its field value box. 'Where within Source' now reads 'Where within'. 'Text From Sou...

If it is not too late I would like to add my preferences. 1) Marriage Certificates 2) Death Certificates 3) Birth Certificates I put MC first because they usually link to the most Individuals (Bride, Groom, both Fathers, and sometimes Witnesses) with Marriage Facts, Occupation Facts, Residence Facts...

Ancestral Sources is an excellent product, but I thought you would be interested in the following minor problems. Census Templates: UK 1841 > Column Title > Profession, Tade,... should read Profession, Trade,... (r added to Trade). UK 1871 > Column Title > Conditio should read Condition ...

Default Source Record Field Values
Thanks to PeterR for his compliments. I am an avid long-term user of Gedcom Census, and have just started using Ancestral Sources, which at present only supports 'Census' sources, but promises much more. The fact that there is a demand for Ancestral Sources somewhat supports my Family Historian Wish...

Multimedia Records Window
This is another user interface inconsistency. Some windows remember their position, height, width, pane size, column widths, etc., either within a session or from session to session, but most do not. FH4 should preserve all dimensions for all windows indefinitely , with perhaps an Installation Defau...

I too mainly link Source Records to Multimedia BMD & Census Record files, and have to tick Exclude from Diagrams and Exclude from Reports every time. FH4 could have a Tools > Preferences > Multimedia tab that allowed these two tick options and the Use Note as Caption option to be customized to defau...

Localise config settings within projects
I totally agree with all the above. FH4 should support per Project (which implies per User) customization settings. These should be supported by Backup/Restore to/from the Project folder. The ability for any custom setting to be Exported from one Project and Imported to another Project would be a ha...
