I suspect from your post that you use Web-mail via your browser to access Hotmail & Gmail. Many people do. The best way to get E-mail onto your PC is to use an E-mail Client such as Windows Live Mail (the replacement for Outlook Express) or if you don't like Microsoft then Thunderbird . Both are fre...

I think I understand Martin's problem. If you choose any one Grandchild and view the All Relatives diagram, you get all the Ancestors of that Grandchild (both Paternal & Maternal ). You also get all the Descendants of all of those Ancestors , which will include all the Uncles , Aunts , and Cousins o...

When you say 'trees' do you mean 'Family Tree Diagrams'? I keep all the 'Individual' details of me, my siblings, wife, children, parents, grandparents, and other relatives in one Family Historian GEDCOM database. To create a 'Diagram' of one ancestor tree try the following: Click on your 'Individual...

Interestingly, 'The GEDCOM Standard' Draft Release 5.5.1 appears to include a RESI dence tag for the FAM ily event structure. It states: RESI {RESIDENCE} := An address or place of residence that a family or individual resided. Also, all the other Family Events/Attributes in GEDCOM 5.5 and FH only re...

Recording medals and awards
You could use the Possessions Standard Fact, and enter the Medal as the Value and edit the Sentence by replacing possessed with was awarded or something similar. You will have to do this for each such Medal Fact. Otherwise, you have to use Custom Facts. There is good set in FHUG Downloads > Fact Set...

appleybridger, sorry to contradict Jane, but yes you can enter the residence fact once but have it linked to both records. Jane, is sort of right in that it is not a built-in feature of FH, but you can easily add a Custom Fact that does what you want. Use Tools > Work With Fact Sets . Click on Resid...

Tracking BMD and Census Records
Do you have a Source Citation for each completed Census Fact , but not for any outstanding Census Year ? If so try my Query Store > Queries > Kinsfolk Census Queries FHUG download. It provides two Queries one for complete and one for incomplete sets of Census Records . Currently, they are only desig...

You could try using the Microsoft Windows Explorer FTP capability instead of FileZilla. (Yes, I mean Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer .) Open Windows Explorer and clear the Folder Address Bar at the top. Type in your FTP server address such as ftp://www.domain.co.uk and press Enter. There shou...

Date Qualifier/Function/Operator Anomalies
It is trying to solve the problems discussed in the earlier postings. A simple example may explain. If you sort dates into order in a FH Query then 1841 is before June 1841 which is before 15 June 1841 . But if you use the Comparison operators then 1841 > June 1841 > 15 June 1841 . This is because 1...

Thank you TimTreeby and DeeJay1 for your advice. I have tried OpenOffice Calc and was aware of the Excel add-in . Unfortunately, neither solve the misbehavior. Yes, they handle dates before 1900, but only if the FH exported date format is a valid spreadsheet date format . Many FH exported date forma...

I had the same situation, with some existing 'genuine' Repository Records . What worked for me was to enclose the Name in string quotes ( ' ) for every such 'genuine' Repository Record . e.g. 'Sheffield Archives' I chose this approach to avoid any unnecessary data entry in the 'address' Repository R...

I have many Query Result Sets that contain a Date column. These may be exported using Query Menu > Save Query Result Set As > Comma-Separated CSV File . The CSV file can be opened with Excel but the Date column is displayed oddly. See later spreadsheet image for examples. Some Dates left-justify in ...

Date Qualifier/Function/Operator Anomalies
I have given these Date issues some consideration and may have hit upon an elegant solution. This proposal hinges on the realisation that dates such as the month June 1841 and the year 1842 represent a duration, which for the sake of clarity will be called a date Span . The June 1841 date Span = 1 J...

Does the Calico Family Historian page for Special CD-Backed Installers need updating?
It only mentions Versions 2.0.7, 2.1.6 & 2.1.8 whereas Antaeus had the Error 105 problem with Version 2.3 which the CD-Backed Installer has cured.

In that case I believe you can do in FH v4.1.3 exactly what you did in FH v3. The Y+M+D expression evaluates the Birth Date using the Comparison criteria instead of the Sort criteria, and that resolves the problem, but in a very inelegant way.
Factoring in the Alive decision is complicated by the fact that their are 8 such decisions, one per Census column!

I know it has been a bit of a journey, but thank you for making a note to look into these inconsistencies. PeterR, I am sorry but your cunning assumption based on probabilities is incorrect. If the date is changed such that the comparison is June 1841 > 30 June 1841 then the result is still True . Furthermore, if the date is changed such that the comparison is 1841 > 31 Dec 1841 then that result is also ...
