Problem linking settings with new laptop

Excellent - we have both learnt something. The Knowledge Base advice on Move Family Historian Settings at: http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:move_settings does give a clue under Diagram Settings where it talks about Save as Default Settings . The Diagram Default Settings are saved in th...

Here are some more suggestions. Read Only FH V3.0.1 supports View > Standard Diagrams > All Relatives - Colourful and - No Box without restriction !!! Using your FH V4.1.3 you can create a Custom Diagram based on the Standard Diagram for All Relatives . Use File > Import/Export > Export > Diagram Ty...

You appear to have transferred your FH set-up correctly. Can you please give a bit more description of what menu commands and other options you are using that are not working correctly, and exactly what is disappearing, or are they just greyed out. Is it only Custom Diagrams that are giving problems?

Offspring appearing twice in diagrams

Do you mean Duplicates Linking Ribbons as in the diagram below? http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/uploads/DuplicateLinkingRibbons.png This is caused by the Child (Andrew TATE) being included in both parent Families . In the Property Box of the Father (Denis TATE) there is a pair of tabs for the two ...

Mary, may I clarify exactly what you have done? 1) You were running FH V4.1.3 on your old PC and have installed it on your new Windows 7 PC using an Administrator account. 2) You copied your entire C:My DocumentsFamily Historian Projects... folder from old PC to new PC. 3) You copied your entire C:D...

allow fields with qualifiers on property box tabs

I support this idea, and would add the suggestion that Functions also be supported in similar read-only boxes.

These two ideas would allow Property Box tab Fields to display the same details as can be displayed in Query Columns or Diagram Text Schemes.

Yes they can. I have had both Read Only FH V3.0.1 and FH V4.1.3 simultaneously installed, originally on Windows 98 , and now Windows 7 PC for years, without any problems. They each use their own installation Program Files and ProgramData folders, but can operate on the same GEDCOM files & Project Fo...

Strangely, the 100 Individuals restriction only applies to the All Relatives Diagram. It does not apply to Ancestors , Descendants , Ancestors & Descendants , nor Everyone Diagrams. However, I wonder that anybody (never mind a novice) would find it easy to navigate an All Relatives diagram of 640 In...

Adding items to new tab in property box

The simple answer is that you cannot add the items you want to tab fields. It appears that none of the Qualifiers have any effect, such as :SOUNDEX , :SURNAME , :PREFERRED , or for DATE fields, :MONTH_NUMBER , :YEAR , etc. Also there is no Data Reference for the main Record Id . The only workaround ...

Ask your cousin to visit the Family Historian website at http://www.family-historian.co.uk/ and select the Downloads tab and choose the Read Only Version . It is only FH V3.0.1 but it is free and not time-limited. Check the restrictions , but it should let your cousin create the necessary diagrams. ...

I am running FH V4.1.3 on a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit PC. If I use File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File with its default settings then many more Records are excluded than expected. The culprit seems to be the Exclude all records which are not linked to the selected Individual records opti...

Deleting data for Living Persons

I have experimented with a technique to excluded all Facts for Living Individuals . It creates two copies of your GEDCOM , one with no Facts for everyone, the other with all Facts but no Living individuals, then these two GEDCOM files are Merged . The process is a bit long winded but produces what y...

While you are familiar with the C:ProgramDataCalico PieFamily Historian folder structure, it would be wise to check that all the following folders have both a Custom and a Standard sub-folder.

Another way to print part of anything is to use a screen grab. On Windows 7 there is the Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool , other free products are available. Draw an A4 shaped rectangle on screen around what you want printed, and save as an image such as JPEG . Then simply print t...

The best approach is to set the Living flag on all Individual Records for people that are alive. You can also set the Private flag on Individual Records you want to exclude entirely. Hidden Sources - where / why have they gone?

Essentially yes, if you edit using PSPad, but see my later suggestion. You delete from the 1 RESI tag up to but not including the next tag line starting with 1 or 0 . However, Source ref @@S63@@ is not valid, and should not be copied. Now you know the records involved, and there are only a small num...

Hidden Sources - where / why have they gone?

It looks like you may have solved the problem. Please use PSPad to examine the .ged file and locate the problem 1 RESI tags. Search up from these tags to the first tag with 0 as the first character. Is this a 0 @F99@ FAM Family Record tag rather than a 0 @I99@ INDI Individual Record tag? If so then ...

Hidden Sources - where / why have they gone?

I have more questions than answers. Firstly, if I use PSPad to edit a .ged file and change a Residence 2 SOUR @S83@ tag to 2 SOUR @@S83@@ then it displays OK in the Events/Facts tab of FH 3.0.1/4.1.3 , but the Source pane shows the @S83@ reference but cannot open the Source. Have you any clues as to...

Hello Dave - I hope this helps. Backups Firstly, it does not matter which Backup file type you choose ( .zip or .ged ) only the project .ged file is backed-up.
