Multimedia Query Filter Bug
Jane, what is the recommended method for registering bugs such as this one? There does not seem to be a 'Known Bugs List' on either this FHUG website nor the Family Historian website. I know there is the Articles category of 'Bugs' , but it does not appear to be well maintained. Apart from the V3-V4...

I assume your filename now looks like PB-INDI.txt or perhaps PB-INDI.fhdata.txt
Simply rename the file to be PB-INDI.fhdata
Ignore the warning that changing the file extension may make it unusable.

If you carefully preserve copies of your two PB-INDI files, and open them with a simple text editor such as Notepad you will see they are simple text files with a fairly obvious format. The [S-1] and [S-1B] sections near the end define the Main tab top and spouse sections. The [C-1] to [C-n] section...

I wanted to find out how many Multimedia Records linked to jpeg format files. I created a Multimedia Query with a few Columns : Record %OBJE% Format %OBJE.FORM% Running the Query lists all the Records with their Formats OK. Then I added a Rows Filter : Add if %OBJE.FORM% matches jpeg Now running t...

Deleting data for Living Persons
There is a twist in the tail of this technique. Although all the Facts have been excluded from the Individual Records for Living people, there may still be Source Records containing details of these Living people. For example, the deceased parents of living people may still have Occupation , Residen...

BMD Query and Icons on charts
I have a Query that lists the state of my BMD research, that relies on the distinct Source per Fact technique, so may not help Steve, but may be of interest to others. In summary it lists individuals WITHOUT a complete set of Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates. Excludes individuals with no surname...

Places - same number of levels for all?
For the GRO registration period after 1837 I use the Registration District and County to formally identify the Place for each Fact , especially BMD and Census Records. Then the Address field records the House/Street/Town postal address. For example the GENUKI web site records the Barrow-in-Furness, ...

I presume you are talking about large tree Diagrams . If so, here are my ideas, that will produce boxes like this: http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/uploads/DiagramBMD.PNG Start with View > Standard Diagrams > Ancestors & Descendants . Then use Diagram > Options and work through the following tab se...

One workaround is to use File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File . Choose Select button, Named Lists tab, highlight your Named List , then click >> button in middle, and OK button. Ensure all the Exclude ... options are not ticked , and click OK button. Choose a Save in: folder or File name: tha...

I assume you have your Gran linked in FH to two Family records, one for her birth Mother & Father, the other for her Adoptive parents. The preference in the Focus window depends on the order of these two Family records in your Gran's Individual record. Open the Property Box for Gran and select the A...

Unfortunately, phreplace does not work on Windows Vista as documented on the developers website, and probably explains why I cannot get it to work on Windows 7.
Unless anyone knows a workaround.

With regard to the deleting NAME tags Query above, include extra Columns for %INDI.NAME[2]% , and %INDI.NAME[3]% , et al, in case there are alternate names. PeterR is correct, the GEDCOM will then contain: 0 @Inn @ INDI 1 SEX F for every individual with no name. The easiest way to insert the Living ...

It is partly personal preference.
If do not add the adoptive parents as a second set of parents then FH cannot create a family tree diagram with the adoptive parents linked to the child.

Deleting the NAME of every Living individual is easy, but replacing is more difficult.
Create an Individual Query that lists the %INDI.NAME[1]% of everyone who has %INDI._FLGS.__LIVING% set.
In the Results, select the entire Name Column, then press Delete key, and OK the warning.

The Column Expression that should work is: =TextIf(IsEmpty(%SOUR.TITL%),%SOUR.ABBR%,%SOUR.TITL%) i.e. If the Full Title is Empty, then use Short Title, else use Full Title. The above is the Expression for a Query Type: Source . For other Query Types replace %SOUR.TITL% and %SOUR.ABBR% as appropriate...

The popular convention is to enter the Individuals main Name as their given birth name as on their Birth Certificate.
All other names such as married women changes of Surname, adopted names, deed pole changes, titles such as Duke of York, etc, are entered as Alternate aka names.
