Re: When to stop with Sources
You don't need to record 20 Residence events. If you are satisfied that someone lived at the same address over a long period of time, simply create one Residence event with a date range from the earliest to the latest known dates. As I said earlier, that should be a date period (from to) and not a ...

Re: Importing Residence Data from Reunion to FH
Welcome to the FHUG Laura. Importing to FH is entirely dependent on the data included in the GEDCOM file exported from Reunion. As there are likely to be few users of Reunion here, could you supply details of the GEDCOM export options so we can advise if any of them are likely to make any difference...

Re: West Surrey Users
Kivlehan, welcome to your first posting in FHUG. We regularly help users solve quite difficult issues. However, it requires a focusing on one topic at a time rather than trying to solve everything at once. The first thing we need to know is the FH version you are using because your Profile on the ri...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
If you are happy that the current Projects are all OK then there is no point in keeping any of the old FH Project Backups. Create the C:\Users\Edward\Documents\Family Historian Backups folder, set it as the FH Tools > Preferences > Backup > Default Backup Folder: and create a Full Project Backup now...
Re: Media
Either change the Media record Filenames or use File Explorer to change the actual Filenames. As long as they match then the links will be restored. I recommend that you keep the sub-folder names as they were originally if at all possible. There is no advantage in moving all the files up so they all...

Re: When to stop with Sources
Regarding Period Dates (frm to) versus Range Dates (btw and) ... Period Dates define the whole period during which an Attribute such as Residence or Occupation applied. i.e. They lived at an address frm 1900 to 1920. Range Dates define the limits for a Date of an Event such as Birth, Marriage or Dea...

Re: query
Hint: A way of discovering how to display a value such as Record Id is to find a Query that already displays Record Id and inspect its Column tab expression. You can make the Query Window Results font small so the text takes up less space. See Tools > Preferences> Query Window > Fonts... > Query Wi...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Edward, sorry, but this perfectly illustrates the muddled contents of your folders and files, and your screenshot is showing only the tip of the FH project backup iceberg. Computers help you to organise things but you must be consistent otherwise everything becomes muddled and disorganised. Consiste...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Edward, I cannot believe you really use that path to save your Project Backups. That would mean they are all saved in C:\Users\Edward\ - Is that really true? Show me a File Explorer screenshot of the contents of that folder listing all the FH Project Backup - Rowland Family - ... backup .zip or .fhb...
Re: Media
Philip, you cannot change the Media Filenames in the Media records without making identical changes to the Files themselves. Each FH Media record uses the Media Folder and Filename to link to the actual file. If they don't match then the link is broken and FH cannot find the file. Auto Repair Link r...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Your screenshots show that there are many folders named Family Historian Projects all over the file system. We agree that there should only be one such folder in ...\OneDrive\OneDrive Documents\ which is used by the FH File > Project Window... Location: setting. All other folders named Family Histor...

Re: Associating addresses with places
I realise you are a newcomer to FH but mastering simple custom Queries will prove to be an invaluable skill. See the FHUG > Knowledge Base > An Overview of Queries and practice Creating a Custom Query. I'm not sure exactly how you want to group Places on the 2nd or 3rd part but here are some suggest...

Re: Associating addresses with places
Welcome to the FHUG Natasha. Have you seen the FHUG > Knowledge Base > Working with Places and Addresses ? That gives advice on recording Church addresses similar to what you have chosen. It also offers a way of coupling Address & Place in the Place field and ignoring the Address field altogether. I...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
That is really weird! :o Everything is perfectly OK except... The 20230521A.fhss Snapshot file you copied earlier has reverted to its original name instead of Rowland Family.ged So rename it to Rowland Family.ged and the project should be just fine. I have no idea what you did to get that effect.

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
If you did not delete it then what did you do with it? Use File Explorer and check C:\Users\Edward\OneDrive\OneDrive Documents\Family Historian Projects\ Does it contain a Rowland Family folder? If so then attach a screenshot of its contents. Does that contain a Rowland Family.fh_data folder? If so ...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
You must open the Recycle Bin on your Desktop, find and select the Rowland Family.fh_data folder you just deleted and use Restore the selected items in the toolbar. That should repair your Rowland Family project. Do not use Quick Access shortcuts because they could take you to any folder with the sa...

Yes, that is correct.
Although there is no fundamental reason why those Metafield references could not be included in the lists.
FH includes all custom Events and Attributes defined by Fact Sets so why not all Metafields defined by Source Templates?

It is talking about the AS Census entry main screen where you enter the grid of people, not the Census Template Editor.

Re: Duplicate names and spouses have same ID in Focus Window
Bob, it is difficult to say what you did. There's no Marriage event recorded for either 'family' so that is not the cause. It is unlikely that you would have added the same person via the Spouse tab of the Property Box. I wonder if you linked their daughter to her parents again when she was already ...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Excellent. I suggest you delete all except the latest 3 or 4 Snapshots. FH will create a new one each day that you open FH but should only keep the last 8 by default. FH should automatically purge the older ones but that sometimes fails so you should manually check occasionally. That large number of...

Re: Page Breaks in Source Text
Sorry, I was not sure that you really meant 'page breaks' and thought you meant 'line breaks'. 'page breaks' would pose a problem in Reports because they would force a new page in the middle of the Report. The best I can suggest is to insert a line of underline ( _ ) characters to indicate page boun...

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Thank you, unfortunately, that confirms that there is no GEDCOM file in that project folder. Please delete the debug.log and Rowland Fam desktop latest.fh_proj files which are very old and of no use. The Snapshots folder holds automatic backup copies of your Rowland Family GEDCOM file for the Dates ...
