Re: cant put parents into tree from there daughter
I think there is misleading wording being used. [Posted at the same time as Lorna.] When Rob initially said, "I'm trying to put the parents of a child into my tree". Several of us thought he was trying to add new parents to the child Mary Paisley. However, I think he means 'displaying' her parents i...

Re: cant put parents into tree from there daughter
Lorna, Rob cannot use some of your suggestions as he is using FH V5 . Rob instead of saying 'this' and 'that' it would help if you explained in detail what you did and why it is not what you expected. Also, explain the type of Diagram you are displaying and who was the root person. Mary Paisley has ...

Re: cant put parents into tree from there daughter
I suspect you cannot add parents (or other relatives) via a Diagram unless they would be included in the diagram if they already existed as relatives.
i.e. In an Ancestors Diagram, you can only add direct line ancestor parents but not spouses or children.

Re: cant put parents into tree from there daughter
One of the easiest ays to add parents is via the Focus Window as illustrated below. Use the Add Daughter's Father or Add Daughter's Mother link above the Daughter. If the parent already exists in your Project then use the Link Existing Record option. Otherwise, use the Create New Record option. AddP...

IMO Mark should update the plugin to cope with those symbols rather than users having to edit their Projects.

Re: modify output on relationship to root
I guess you mean a Column Expression in the Records Window rather than a Query which is something rather different but would have exactly the same difficulty. The short answer is "no". It might be possible with a very complex expression but it has to cope with a great many possible relationships. e....

Re: Finding Expressions
To obtain the Ahnentafel Number relative to a specific person regardless of the File Root then use the =Record(...) function.
e.g.
AhnentafelNumber( Record( 321, "I" ), %INDI%, 1 )
where 321 is the Record Id number of the root person and "I" is the capital letter I for Individual record.

Re: Ancestry Synchronization Error
Does any of your Individuals have a Surname that contains symbols such as ( , ) , - , * , % , etc? Note to Mark: The use of gsub(...) is risky unless you protect the 'magic pattern symbols' in the pattern and % symbols in the replacement. e.g. local Name = fhGetItemText(p, '~.NAME') local Surname = ...

In the Wish List, I simply Searched for 'colour' and it was the 2nd of seven matching items.
So no FH speak was needed, just the English spelling for colour!

Well Bev, that request is already in the Wish List as Ref 548 Conditional Colour and Font Options and 7 years old. Not only that but you commented on it about a year ago. You also Voted for it but gave it only 0 points so that won't boost its likelihood of happening. I suggest you Vote again but giv...

Re: Finding Expressions
Use the =CombineText(...) function:
=CombineText( "[Ahentafel: ", AhnentafelNumber( FileRoot(), %INDI%, 1 ), "]" )
That only displays the prefix "[Ahentafel: " and suffix "]" if Ahnentafel(...) provides a number.
=CombineText( "[Ahentafel: ", AhnentafelNumber( FileRoot(), %INDI%, 1 ), "]" )
That only displays the prefix "[Ahentafel: " and suffix "]" if Ahnentafel(...) provides a number.

Yes, row highlighting would probably be an acceptable alternative to darker grid lines. Wish List Ref 567 Highlight selected Row(s) in Records Window, Result Sets, etc is still open because although most row highlighting has been implemented in FH V7 it does not yet include Query/Plugin Result Set r...

As soon as you redisplay using the Charts > Descendants... command all the branches should be displayed. You have probably hidden the branch by one of several methods but that is only temporary. If you clicked on an Expansion Button then clicking it again will reveal the branch. If you have hidden b...

I don't think categorising the New Wish List Request forum is worthwhile.
The number of postings is tiny compared with the FH General Usage forum(s) where it was needed.

Your custom facts and sources will be stored in the GEDCOM file without any problems, as GEDCOM allows for such customisations (although they don't usually transfer intact between apps unless it is by a direct import). Since GEDCOM allows for custom facts, they do usually transfer quite well via GE...

Re: query grids
Some columns are black when they are linked to data, the other ordinary columns are grey. As Helen says, use the Query Window > Colours option and set Ordinary Text to a darker colour by double-clicking the Colour box and choosing dark blue or dark brown to differentiate them from Data-Linked text.

I think by now you should be able to answer some of those questions yourself. Why do you think C:\Users\Toshiba\OneDrive\OneDrive Documents\Family Historian Projects must be used on the Laptop? Why are the PC not syncing? They were syncing the last time you checked. Is OneDrive running and signed in...

1. Currently, when I need an expression, I manually search the extensive, categorized, nested list, line by line. Is there a more efficient way to find a specific expression, even when I don't know how it might be categorized? I think you are misusing the word 'expression' when you really mean 'fun...
