Scanning images/documents

Personally I use JPG.  Even though in theory it is not the best format for documents.  FH does not support gif or compressed Tiff format. So as long as you are scanning for reference rather than editing JPG seemed the best choice.  JPG is a 'lossy' format which means if you keep editing the image yo...

Pocket PC Software

You could take a look at
Pocket Genealogist
at
http://www.northernhillssoftware.com/pgenie.htm

It works quite well for me.  You can not yet enter data directly against people, but for carrying your family in your pocket it works very well.

Link Attributes and Events

One for the wish list I think, I posted this as a reply to a similar question on the Mailing list FH does not have witness type support at the moment,  however you can create a shared note.  This means you can enter all the details for say the business or emigration, you can use the event tags in ge...

Wish List Items 2.2

>>Unless I'm being thick! No you are not. I think its already on the list. All in One Tree No there is not one of these as such,  although I found it less than usful on my data file (3000 plus people). Also if you pick a 'low' member of your family (I pick myself) or my family as spouse, the large m...

Should I switch to FH?

I have not used Origins, but I am very impressed with FH,  I came from Family Tree Maker, so the ability to use attached photos and the query system were what drew me to the product. I particuarly like :- The Querys and the new Reports option The all relations Chart The lists Limitations at the mome...

Count of children/marriages

The two counts are not linked. The count of marriages field that you can enter is for data you have been told/know, and the other count of marriages, is the number entered. So for example you may know fred was married 3 times, but only have details for the last marriage. OR My mother says her father...

Notes Pages - Migrating from FTM to FH

I think an expandable notes box is very likely [rolleyes] One problem you may have is that FTM exports notes incorrecly according to the GedCom standard. I have worked out the logic for changing them, but have not yet added the code to GedFixFTM. If I get a chance this week, I will try and add the l...

Wrong Language

Hi, This is almost certainly some other software which you have loaded since installing FH.  It might well be worth re-installing Fh, although I think the Dll which has been overwritten might be a Windows one.  I don't know which dll contains the print preview, but if its wrong in a Microsoft app, I...

Have you installed any German software?

Are the print preview buttons wrong on any other programs, for example IE?

Missing ';links';

Another thing to try, is to copy the Query and then remove the Add unless from the Rows. I think it may be to do with the logic which controls the selection of people. Does the first marriage of the people which are missing have dates, that would mean they were missed, for all marriages as well as i...

I can't see any reason, that they shouldn't show up.  If you want to send me a part of the GEDCOM containing the offending people I will see if there is any problem with the way the data is defined.

Data not updating

If you select the surname field and delete it all will be fine.  FH does not normally create surname fields.  If will pick up the surname just fine from between the // as should the program it came from.

Recording Census Data in FH

For your Query, I think you will be best to have one source per folio piece you can then select all people with that source link.
