Merging Existing People : Carey
Posted From separate branchess within my family tree I have two individuals who are one and the same. How do I link/merge these two records so that the branches become fully joined? I have read, and used, the Merge/Compare Dialog but this seems to deal with merging Files rather than individual recor...

No, what you do with PDF995 is to print to it direct from Family historian, you then get what you see when you print it in a PDF file.

Changing diagram page size
If you make the visual page on the screen smaller the diagram gets bigger when you print it, this includes all the text. It makes more sense when you try it.
Note I said right click, not left click, left clicking just moves the whole page around moving the bounaries.

One way around the problem is to use PDF995 to create a PDF file, which you can send to people. It works very well and also supports pictures on reports. You can buy a copy for $9.95 or simply work with IE offline to prevent it showing you ad's from the web. The site has all the details. I will add ...

Changing diagram page size
First change your printer page size to A3.
Display the page lines and then right click on the corner of a page you can then dynamicly change the diagram size.
I hope this is clear if not please leave a note and I will do more detailed instructions.

';read only'; version?
You can use the Demo version of FH for this or there are a huge variety of GEDCOM viewers which can be pressed into service. The limits on the Demo do mean you can not print the reports or charts. So you might want to consider using one of the PDF converters, PDF995 or e-Doc printer are good and che...

Updated date and time - a buglet?
What program is the data coming from it is a problem in that programs export. To fix it prior to opening the file in FH, you need to replace 2 TIME With 3 TIME The format of the change statement shows the time should be a sub off the Date line therefore the number on the front should be incremented.

Updated date and time - a buglet?
Can you paste a little bit of the original gedcom here please.
When you save the file after import does the time convert to 00:00 or is the data lost completely?

I was thinking of setting up a 'book list' here with peoples favourite Family History books.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is this on a merge, or on opening a file? Does the original file have times in it?

I don't recognise the report type. You could use many of the FH reports to do this you just need to change the data you want to collect to always show. This way you can get a Family Group sheet with lots of blanks for all those important dates. If this is no good then if you leave a few more details...

Deleting Custom Diagrams
I don't think you can do so from with in FH, but if you go into windows explorer and down into the Family historian directory in program files. You will find a directory called Custom Diagrams
(C:Program FilesFamily HistorianCustom Diagrams)
Simply delete the unwanted file from there.

One possible way you can do it currently, is to create a Custom Attribute for Living, then when ready to upload to the web, configure a Query to omit all the people with a 'hidden' flag and use the Split tree function to delete them all. Personally I do something very similar, but have a query which...

I don't think you read the instructions at the top of the Query Store. You need to save the file to c:program filesfamily historianqueriescustom directory, when you download it. I think you are some how opening the file with family historian, rather than saving it. If you then open Family Historian ...

Penny, I have moved this from Wish List as you can already do this. You just need to set up the correct Text for the Diagram. For example putting %INDI.NAME% Ref =recordid() in place of %INDI.NAME: Prefered% will show the whole name and the reference. Don't forget to change it on all the different b...

I had a quick look at the web page for Clooz and I believe you need to create a list of people usign the Query Tool in FH and save it as a CSV file. I have created a query which should do the required task. You will need to download it from the Query Store and then run the Query and use the Save opt...

Thanks for checking. I don't think that will be the problem. Might have to wait until I get a response from Calico, probably be a couple of days though. Please can you keep a copy of your gedcom as it was when you were working on it. Just remember to keep hitting the save button. I also use the back...

Just downloaded it myself.
Instructions for GEDCHK
extract the 3 files to a folder.
rename GED55.GMR.txt to GED55.GMR
copy the gedcoms you want to check to the same directory.
You should then be able to run the program for each file.
Hope this makes sense.

Never hear of this one before. One possibility could be that the original file you imported had a problem. I will bring Calicos attention to this one and see if they can shed any light on the problem. In the mean time can I suggest you download and run GEDCHK to see if the file did/does have any pro...

As long as it is Family Historian, don't worry, 2.0.7 was the first version released and that can be freely upgraded to 2.1, I think 2.0.7 was in the bigger box, but I would get which ever is cheapest and download the upgrade from the main Calico Site.

The 2.1.6 and 2.1.6 updates were free and I understand the 2.2 update will be as well. FH is a new product and is different from many on the market as the development team interact with the users. So this means you get lots of requests to change the program. You may have noticed the mailing list is ...

Colin, I am still working on the problem as PG works fine for me. I think the problem with occupations is that when FTM export them it exports them as EVEN (Events) rather than as OCCU for occupations. When I converted my data I fixed these problems using my GEDFIX program. I am waiting for confirma...
