Another Printing Question
Not really. FH should retain the settings all the time. The easiest way I think will work is to save the 'big' diagram as a custom one and the normal one as a custom one and swap between the two, or simply use the diagram rows per page option to get the page size back. I will try and have a play whe...

I think there may be a limit, but I do know of people with 30,000 interelated individuals in their files with out problems.
So I do not think you will find a practical limit.

Windows separate on the task bar
I suspect this might be hard fought one. The MDI interface which Fh uses has the advantage of keeping the taskbar clear, personally I do not like the SDI format you are suggesting and from a coding point of view I don't think you can support both at once. As you point out you can open multi-copies o...

Any chance you could paste a little of the gedcom to the forum, so I can see if I can see an easy work around for you.

Specific people nbsp;diagrams able to be saved
Just as a work around. I keep a list of key people so that at any time I can click on the person in the list then on the diagram button on the icon bar to just directly to a diagram of the person I want.

This had been covered before both here and on the mailing list. 1. Currently you need to use a program like PDF995 to create a PDF file. There is a new article on the front page with regard to this. 2. There are many services which do this dependant on your location. If you create a PDF file many lo...

As PWE says a little more information would be helpful. If you are using the Report with select all. You can get them in reverse order simply by adding them all and then clicking on the date column. Otherwise you will need to create a query, sorted by birth date. Then add all the people using your n...

Occupation
You can choose.
On the Events Tab you can add as many occupations as you want.
I think the first occupation listed in the records window is the one which appears there.
Personally I keep my occupations by date, so the one on the properties dialog is the first occupation I know of.

This is not possible at the moment, but is on the wish list as
'Copy events between individuals'. Don't forget to vote for it.

Export Report Data
I suggest reading through chapter 12 of the main manual (can be opened from the Help menu).
If you also look at the queries supplied with FH you can see how they are built.
If you have a specific request I should be able to do a query to match, if I get a few minutes.

Export Report Data
Hi, You are looking under the wrong title. You need to look at queries, these allow you to define what you want to export and then save the data as CSV, or text files which can be loaded into excel or other programs. There is a lot in the manual about these and you will find addition queries in the ...

This sounds like you may have the linking wrong. Please can you confirm you have checked that the 'father' has two families as spouse and if you center on the Father all children are shown as such. I can think of no reason they would show on the line above in most cases they will not show at all. If...

Have you also read the two articles called Complex Families in the FAQ section?
You may also need to check that you have the 'prefered' family listed first for the sibblings.

This is not currently available, obviously you can use the shift-Print screen buttons to copy the currently displayed screen to the clipboard, as you can in any program and use a image editor to trim off the excess. I would attach the source to the birth event. If the certificate also gave me the mother maiden name I would attach the source to the name for the mother. In the same way on a marriage certificate might well be the source for the father of a person. When entering new certificate I tend to use the au...

Yes, thats right. I think Calico's reasoning is to allow you to put more detail on direct ancestors and desendants than on more distant relations. Make sure you keep the make default check box ticked as a bug in 2.1.8 prevents the scheme from being saved. This will be fixed in 2.2 when it eventually...

Hi, everyone has their own way of doing this. Personally I have a source for each Certificate, puting any text I can not enter direct on the entries in the note on the source.
For more on my way of entering see the Article.

There is not a default for this as such, but to my knowledge FH remembers when you loaded the last picture from and returns to that directory each time you add a picture.

Have you added the line to all possible boxes. i.e Default, Ancestors, Descendants ?
Any elements with a * next to them need the line adding.
Please let me know if this is the problem.

Places/Addresses/Residence
Remember than Family historian supports all the gedcom fields. This means there are often several ways of doing things. Personally, I use residence when I have an address which does not tie to an event. For instance, my Grandmother moved to a new address when my Grandfather died. The way I use Place...

I will highlight, both your messages to Calico and see if they can shed any light on the problems.
If you have not already found it there is an automatic save in the tools preferences.
You may also like to get into the habit of hitting at the end of each entry. This ensures FH 'has' the text.

On the records window or the All tab on the Properties dialog, right click on the family you want to change, eg Parents Family Fred Bloggs and Mary Smith Right Click on where it says Fred Bloggs. A small menu with unlink and replace link with will appear. http://www.familyhistorian.ip3.com/images/up...

Currently there is no direct merge.
The best way around the problem is to select the most detailed of the two people and use the change link function to point the parents and children at a single person.
