Re: Backup - Unable to open zip file
You appear to have some very strange characters in the Project file name, a little diamond. Have you tried removing them?

Re: Extracting long text fields, rich text, carriage returns etc
You need to create a Rich Text Object and pull the note into that.

My 3x Great Grandfather's inquest was held in a pub. Appropriate as he was suffering from the DT's when he had a "visitation from god on the brain".

Re: Common relationships between two people
You appear to be looking for all Blood Relations, rather than just ancestors. So would it not be simpler to simply prompt for the two people you want to compare and then test for DnaBloodRelation So Add if =DnaBloodRelation(["Person"], %INDI%) true Exclude if =DnaBloodRelation(["Person2"], %INDI%) f...

Re: Better way to exit a plugin early
Another option is simply to use return. assuming you are not down deep in sub functions.
Code: Select all
strAnswer = fhMessageBox(" YES to complete action or NO to exit", "MB_YESNO")
if strAnswer == 'No' then
fhMessageBox("exiting with no actions")
return
end
print('do stuff')

Re: Locating a record via _UID
That is the way I would do it. Scan once through all records and build a table indexed on the uid with the value being the record pointer (don't forget to clone it in). As you only need to grab one field it should be very quick to build the look up. I would probably add some validation for duplicate...

Re: Display number of Individuals in persons tree
There are a couple of plugins, one which computes and displays and one which creates attributes for each person with the counts.
https://pluginstore.family-historian.co.uk/?s=counts
Note the second one updates the records so will update the last changed date on the records.

Re: Filtering results on Ancestry
In general I also use single databases, so I know which original sources I have checked. There are also odd problems which can affect the results. Take the example of my 6xG grandfather, who was buried in Somerset and so is in Somerset parish records, this was fine, but he never (to my knowledge) li...

Re: FH Backup Files new file type
I suspect the reason for this is to avoid less advanced users from extracting the gedcom by using windows explorer to open the zip and double clicking to open it, rather than using the Project restore option in the program.

Re: RootsMagic Import Source Templates Not Wanted
I don't think there is a way to hide them if they are still in use, but you could change the name or the category so they appear at the bottom of the list of templates out of the way. To see them all go to View>Other Record Lists>Source Template Records.

Yes you can zoom in the Media Window Workspace.
Press the + or - keys, use the +/- option on the icon bar or select the zoom from the dropdown box at the top.
You can also use the Autosize icon or the 1:1 actual size icons.

Re: DNA tracing Ancestry and FH
Once you get in the 4th - 6th you are a fair way back so you could need to go back 6 or 7 generations to find a match. Once useful option if you are "talking" to DH is to cross check shared matches between them and other of your matches. So for example if they match another 2nd or 3rd cousin there i...

I can't reproduce this.
I have set up a new project added a person and added birth fact and added a picture to the fact and it appears correctly on the individual summary report, no sources or other information entered.

Re: Report layout/spacing
You could simply customise your Fact Type sentence templates to include some paragraph breaks in Tools>Fact Types. The code is <para> and is listed on the insert helper.
You can also insert them direct into an individual sentence for a fact, to add breaks where you want them.

Another possible option if you want to keep a single citation in FH7 is to paste it into the Prepared citation which does survive a shutdown and can easily be viewed.

Part of the problem might be you have "smart" quotes rather than standard ones. One of the pitfalls of putting it near Ms Word I expect.

Re: family-historian@groups.io
Just for information, I suspect groups.io does this as if a user (or a provider) marks a message as Spam, services like Amazons delivery service mark down the sender and may black list them completely. So as soon as a message is sent to a spam folder by anyone, it can have knock on affects for a lot...

Re: Producing a Timeline of events for a place
That is fairly easy to do with a Fact query and filter it on the placenames you want.
A good starting point is the Events near place, which is a standard query, which you can copy and customise.
