Re: Census expression as condition in diagram
Thanks. Yes, it would make sense to make the change, especially as my old TMG census entries made heavy use of roles/shared events. I've actually entered a few new ones now via Ancestral Sources and I see that the expression does work perfectly for those. So, next I need to have a look at the plugin...

Census expression as condition in diagram
I'm trying to configure a series of census icons within a diagram. The expression that seems to be recommended, eg for 1881, is %INDI.CENS[year=1881]% but that doesn't result in any icon. Could that be because I have different facts for each census, 1881-cen, 1891-cen etc (from a TMG import a few ye...

Re: AS v7.3 available to test
No problems at all in entering a variety of 1921 censuses with 7.3.3. All seems to work extremely well. One issue that I've noticed before (not a new one I think) is that after accepting the AS message "The GEDCOM family history file has been changed ...", AS unexpectedly loses the focus a...

Just noting for the record that this has been fixed in AS v7.3. Thanks Nick!

“{others}” sentence role code in FH 7.0.9.0
The release notes for 7.0.9.0 (https://www.family-historian.co.uk/v7-updates) says Family Historian now supports name qualifiers which can be used with role codes in witness sentence templates, and a new “{others}” role code has been added. See the Help for details. But there's no reference in the h...

1921 UK census - how to reference a schedule from its Findmypast image?
Has anyone worked out how to construct proper National Archive references based on the Findmypast images? For other censuses the information needed to construct the reference can be found on the transcription page, but for 1921 viewing the transcription means paying an additional fee, over and above...

Changing default Facts in Add Fact dropdown box
This relates to the "Add Fact" button in the Facts tab of the property box. Is there any way to edit the default Facts that appear in the Add Fact dropdown box? I very often want to add a custom Rsrch fact (used for temporary research notes), and it's a nuisance to have to bring up the ful...

Sentence error with 'Make local notes private' census option
I'm entering census data with AS, and have configured Age and Condition as generic columns so that the data gets written to the local note for use in fact sentences. On the Census settings page, under Generic columns , I have Include note titles and Make local notes private ticked, and Newline betwe...

Re: Anyone want to create a simple article on the KB?
There seem to be quite a few articles that are correct for v7, and just need to have that information added. I'd be happy to help if you could show me what to do.

Re: Research note confusion
I'll definitely be naming RNs as suggested, and thanks to you both for the idea. But I'll also be playing with the plugin as it's good not only to be able to tell who is referred to, but also to be able to go quickly to them

Re: Research note confusion
Interesting, thanks. View > Record links seems powerful, as it's very general, but it doesn't make working with a list of research notes easy. It's a modal dialogue box that has to be closed before moving on to the next note in the list, and re-opening. Multiple clicks every time. The kb page you re...

Research note confusion
Even after reading the help file and the kb article (https://fhug.org.uk/kb/kb-article/research-notes) I really don't understand how research notes are used in practice. The standalone aspect, as discussed in the kb, seems clear enough, but it's the linking I'm having trouble with. 1. Looking at the...

Re: Using selected Text from Source in sentence templates
Ah yes, thanks Brent, it's gradually becoming clearer the way the various options are linked. I was treating your suggestion as separate, but I see now that it's actually a potentially quicker way of doing (almost) what I'd just said. I can understand why users here have talked about experime...

Re: Using selected Text from Source in sentence templates
Since my main wish is to be able to add the information to narrative sentences, I'm thinking perhaps of adding "Role: unmarried son" etc to the census fact Note field on a person by person basis. That does mean that after adding a whole bunch of people quickly with AS I'll have to visit th...

Re: Entering census age & anomalies
A slight niggle is that the sentence code {age} - which uses the age stated in the census - adds the word "aged" in narrative reports, which results in sentences like On 30 March 1841 he appeared on the census in Yeovil, Somerset, aged 25. which is misleading when his actual age may have b...
