Re: Windows Media path+filename length under Parallels
My primary drive on my laptop is not where I want any data from any program to reside. Because 1) My SSD is too small to house data, 2) my server has 8 terabytes of room and is automatically backed up to another drive. So I’ve set the storage location for projects to my server!

Re: Question about citations added to Media records
FYI, GEDCOM 5.4 included these comments about Source_Records and Source_Citations when they were added. * The SOURCE_RECORD structure was simplified into five basic sections: data or classification, author, title, publication facts, and repository. The data or classification section contains facts a...

Re: Question about citations added to Media records
At first glance the SOURCE_CITATION inside a MULTIMEDIA_RECORD isn't in GEDCOM 5.5, only in 5.5.1, but Tamura Jones refutes this, saying: The <<SOURCE_CITATION>> line is not new in GEDCOM 5.5.1. It was added to GEDCOM 5.5 through the GEDCOM 5.5 errata sheet. Yes, this is true it was added in GEDCOM...

Re: Question about citations added to Media records
Helen; So; this would be used as a citation to a single image and create a standard Source Record associated with that single image. When one creates a citation for a "fact", it creates a standard Source Record for the single fact. I realize that all Source Records can have multiple image...

Re: Switching census record filing from Head-based to Sheet-based
Gary,
At one time I used Adobe Bridge to organize my images and PDFs. I’m not sure if it’s is still available, Adobe has move to a subscription based environment that is too rich for me!

Re: Switching census record filing from Head-based to Sheet-based
Peter; I don't use shortcuts either. My issue is more that I can't implement what you suggest until I enter the data into the media gallery.. I don’t use shortcuts at this time either, although I did when I was first presented with the problem of creating a file structure that supported organizing ...

Re: Switching census record filing from Head-based to Sheet-based
I put the whole project on my server. When you create a new project, just below the list of projects is a file path for the location of the project. Click that and create a new path!

Re: Switching census record filing from Head-based to Sheet-based
"KFN"; Thank you for the suggestion. I'm not sure, however, that this would work for FH7 running on a Mac via Parallels. Amongst other issues, I've found the path+filenames frequently are too long for Windows. Yes, I agree with the very real limit in some applications regarding path in Wi...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
Yes. It would be easy to create a duplicate entry in the Source_Citation when creating the events associated with the source. I do this for any source be it a census, church record, newspaper article, etc. To help with keeping the actual information from the source together I usually generate a sha...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
The Source_Citation would then get any detail information, this gets the most attention with multiple names or niches. Here I also record any information about the specific location within “the marker” (first name, third name from left), and when their are multiple names an image of just that entry...

Re: Switching census record filing from Head-based to Sheet-based
This may be too far out there to consider. The Windows hierarchical folder system is not real good at supporting robust multi-dimensional data organization! However, you can use shortcuts to better support some organizational concepts. For example: Suppose you would like to have two folder organizat...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
I look at Headstones, Columbarium, and Mass Graves as a single source (“the marker”), with the cemetery as the Repository. The “source” (source_record) would have a TITLe that describes something about “the marker”. I usually put the name(s) on “the marker” in the TITL, but for cases with more than ...

If you mean the Record Id of the Family Record where the Marriage Event is held, then that is not possible To be specific, a "Record Id" (for example the "[2592]" displayed after the Knute Melby name) are more commonly know as either an XREF in GEDCOM or a "Foreign Key"...

Re: Report, List or Query to find all individual alive at date and country
I updated 20 or 30 individuals with Census tags for the Norwegian 1865 Census. I ran the "Lookup Missing Census Facts" for all individuals descended from an individual. It looks like people that I added the census tag to are still in the list, indicating to me that I need to add an entry f...

Re: Switching census record filing from Head-based to Sheet-based
Long time ago I stopped naming my images based on the contents of the image. In my database all images have a randomized unique name. I let the database object record “title” and “note” tags list the content of the record. In cases where the content is not obvious by looking at the image (census pag...

Re: Report, List or Query to find all individual alive at date and country
I installed 4.8.1 of your plug-in. What in the code decides to include a person who would never have been in Norway at any time in their life? Is it that they were just alive at the time of the particular census? None of their "place" tags suggest a relationship with Norway! I realize that...

Re: Report, List or Query to find all individual alive at date and country
Then I don't understand the plug-in. I select Norway 1801-1920 Census I don't use any of the Programs (Ancestry, FindMyPast, etc. I select "anyone via the select Records dialog. and I get thousands of people many of which reside in the USA, Germany, etc. If I sort one of the columns I can see w...

Re: Report, List or Query to find all individual alive at date and country
Thanks Mike,
I'll give it a try.
It looks like I will need to go person by person to find out if they are in a particular census. Rather than look for all persons that are alive for inclusion in a particular census!

Report, List or Query to find all individual alive at date and country
I'm looking for a report, list or query that will help me to find all individuals that were alive on a particular year and country. I've been bad with adding census information for individuals not in my direct line and have missed adding some census information for them. My hope is to find all indiv...

Re: Adding Media files.
I agree Adrian, the terminology doesn't really matter at all. However in case you find it of interest.... The reason why I believe Ancestral Sources is a 'source driven' approach is that you are entering the details of the source, effectively transcribing the source in AS, and from that all the fac...

I use headstones as both a source and as a substitute for a photo of an individual where no photo is available. Because photography is still a relatively new invention and for many years only available to the rich, substituting the grave marker for the individual photo provides some additional inter...

How to generate a list of ALL names
I'm trying to create a list of all names in my database. I've found "canned" list for Boy and Girl Names but they only list the first NAME tag and none of the other NAME tags for an individual. I can't figure out how to create a query that displays an individual and all of the NAME tags th...
