Re: Research Note Query Help
Thanks Mike, just what I needed - a way in :-) I had begun to suspect that the Research Note was just a long text field and it didn't have fields for Status, Date and Title etc. As a result they are not there to be selected from the hierarchical list that appears when you click the available plus bu...

Research Note Query Help
Hi, I've just been trying to use the Query capability to produce something from Research Notes and failed with all but producing a list of all my Research Notes and being able to exclude some based on various criteria. The big problem is where to look in the hierarchical list of what is available to...

Re: Manageable Workflow
Thanks for the correction Mark, now I get it.
If I wanted to look at the plugin script, where do I find it.
I am new to this, but agree that the plugin capability is a great benefir of FH and want to learn more about it.

Re: Manageable Workflow
Hi Mark, I am very interested in your approach for working with a 'synced' FH and Ancestry tree. Thanks for the link to the KB article.
Is the plugin you refer to the GEDCOM export plugin from Mike Tate ?

Good point, as the Media link only applies to that person anyway.
Thanks

Media Link Note
Having added a media item of a family celebration I have used the Face Link capability to identify all the family members. If I leave FH7 to its own devices it will add a caption to these faces in, say, The Individual Summary Report. This caption will contain relationship to the individual the repor...

Compare/Merge for Research Notes
During the course of exploring FH7, as a new user, I have ended up with two Projects one more complete than the other. However, I seem to have left behind several Research Notes in the incomplete one. There are only about 10 and they are all Shared Research Notes. Is it possible to move them over ? ...

Manageable Workflow
As a new user of FH7 and not very experienced genealogist I am trying to develop a workflow of research and documentation that will work for me. I have been using Ancestry for a few months and have a limited time subscription (it runs out next month). My normal mode of operation is to have a subscri...

Numbered Lists in Forum Posts
Hi, New user question - how do I get a numbered list in a forum post ? I have tried pressing the numbered link button and the list button. I understand that they are presenting me with an opening and closing html tag within which to type my point. However, I type my point and then newline to make th...

Re: Importing Media From Ancestry
Regarding the duplicate Media, see 12689|Duplicate Media Records that starts in 2015 and comes up to date. The same problem affects RM and Legacy and any product that uses Local Media Objects (LMO). The Record Id is not significant. It is effectively the unique record key. Don't think of it as a nu...

Re: Importing Media From Ancestry
That is certainly the case with RM. I have lots of cryptic media filenames. Just had a look for a free version of Family Tree Maker and can't find one. I have lots of duplicate media to remove, so work to do anyway. Being new to Family Historian I am trying to assimilate its capabilities, which are ...

Re: Importing Media From Ancestry
Thanks Mike. I will look at your references. Yes the RM route brought all my phot media and Citation Media. However, there seemed to be lots of duplicates of the images. The other problem I got was that I am number 1 and root in a direct import via GEDCOM from Ancestry, but I become number 201 in th...

Re: Importing Media From Ancestry
Thanks Mike,
I had read that and tried it and failed to recognise that the media came with it even through the GEDCOM transfer.
Thanks, I now have all my media. If I start my definitive FH7 tree from this base do you know if there are any data gotcha's as a result of going via RM, please.

Re: Importing Media From Ancestry
I've just been trying to follow this process to get my media from Ancestry into FH7 with only some success. I was wondering if I missed something. I used the latest Roots Magic Essential (free version of RM). The latest I could find on their website is 7.6.5.0, no sign of RM 8. I successfully connec...

Re: Import gedcom with photos from online url
Hi Mike, I'm about overloaded with this topic. Being new to FH I am not sufficiently familiar with its functionality. I am not sure what the significance of the Local Media Object is and the need to use File/Validate. When do I do that ? What does it do ? What should I expect to see ? I am not yet f...

Re: Import gedcom with photos from online url
Yes that is the photo. However, I've just tried copying the id from your post and it doesn't work. I tried copying the id from my data directly and it doesn't work. So I'm not fully understanding what you are transferring to where. In the GEDCOM file I find there is an extra URL before the one for t...

Re: Import gedcom with photos from online url
quick response - I was able to view the image I had taken a copy of (in clipboard) the URL for. I logged out of Ancestry, I even closed Firefox and used Internet Explorer and I was able to see the image for https://mediasvc.ancestry.co.uk/v2/image/namespaces/1093/media/7879023e-d8eb-4e6d-8d65-645ace...
