Re: Birth certificate not found at GRO England
I have encountered this (where the GRO's search does not find the record) a number of times for records that I have found listed, e,g,, on FreeBMD. I check the reference against online images of the index pages, then enter the details via the GRO's 'Place an Order' menu.

Thank you Mike.
I understand and appreciate your comments.
Now that FH uses Sort Dates that is a useful addition. (V7 brought my long-forgotten TMG Sort Dates to the Facts Tab Listing. A pleasant surprise.)

Re: Custom Facts
Mike, I do all that is listed on the link that you supplied. I do make use of Sort Dates where required but the Facts I am writing about have no dates because they are, e.g., a summary of occupations. I am very fussy about the order of these on the Facts Tab so I sort them manually so that they appe...

Re: Custom Facts
I have not needed to set a Sort Date for my undated Pre-Birth and Post-Death Facts. Once I have set their position they have always stayed in my order of choice. Mike, Using the All tab does not work well in the circumstance that I encounter. I have done a little experimentation. After using the Alt...

Re: Custom Facts
I, too, use a number of undated custom Facts with 'Normal Time Frame' set to 'Pre-Birth' and 'Post-Death'. At times, quite often, after adding such a Fact the up-down arrows are greyed-out. To make the arrows show I click 'Sort Family and Events in Date Order'. (Property Box Toolbar: Menu Button (co...

Re: Property Window - Unsourced facts (revisited)
In V6 I made much use of the Summary Template settings for Family Facts. When I upgraded to V7.0.11.0 in June 2022 the customisations still applied. After I upgraded to v7.0.18 the customisations no longer applied. I posted here to check if others experienced the same situation and Mike Tate confirm...

Re: Page Breaks in Source Text
You could use a 'code' such as [Page Break] to mark the breaks. If you use a word processor to 'fine tune' a report then use Search and Replace [Page Break] to insert an actual page break.

Re: Old-style numerals support in reports
I am a user of old style/non-lining figures but I rarely 'print' FH's reports directly so, alas, no real support here.

Re: Citing Sources: Method 1 and Method 2 - comparison table tweaks
In the context of this article, which is talking about how to organise information about sources within FH, I would say: Source = the thing that was consulted (book, record, image, etc.) Source Record = the information recorded about the Source in the GEDCOM "SOURCE_RECORD" (lazily, we sometimes re...

Re: Edit of Marriage record
The record in FMP is merely an index of names so whilst I was using Ancestry last night I checked their records. The divorce papers do refer to Martha (Gollop, as was). Ancestry has the copy of the affidavit. Henry filed against Martha. Talbot is the man he accuses Martha of being adulterous with. I...

Re: Add Source Type to Source plugin
That's useful to know. I'm sure that you are right as I have changed a few sources and deleted a couple of Generic Source Types so the Plugin is working perfectly now. These days it's not often that I add a new GST as just about all my scenarios are covered. A little 'tightening up' of the wording c...

Re: Add Source Type to Source plugin
I wondered that myself, Mike. After sending my previous post I did count them. I store a lot of ancillary information in Sources so create quite a few Generic Source Types to cover that. Nevertheless, I'm sure that I can reduce the number. 'One in one out' will be the policy. Many thanks, once again.

Re: Add Source Type to Source plugin
Thank you Mike. I checked using the Sample Project. All worked as normal. I checked my Generic Source Type values. Alphanumeric plus full stop, comma, colon, brackets, asterisk, question mark, ampersand, apostrophe, hyphen. All used in the original project imported into FH years ago. I checked my re...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
I think there needs to be a decision as to whether this forum is just for asking questions and getting responses or whether people are allowed to have discussions about things which are perhaps more technical in nature and perhaps do ramble on and will only be of interest to a minority of the users...

Re: Add Source Type to Source plugin
Mike, FH 7.0.18 I have used this Plugin many times since you created it last January. I last used it perhaps a month ago. This week it is no longer working properly. If I select one or more Sources and then run the Plugin FH is shut down. If I do not select any Sources and run the Plugin, the 'Selec...

Re: Edit of Marriage record
From what you have said the couple were both from the village where the marriage took place, so it wasn't a case of eloping to get married. Did Henry and Martha remain together? I wonder if Martha eloped with someone else later, and Henry wanted to re-marry? Maybe someone was checking the register ...

Agreed, but the last three words don't seem to fit with 'eloped'. Definitely 'something' of 'something'.

Agree with 'eloped'. The words aren't Greek, but English written in Greek letters. For the moment, can't quite work out the other words. Will have a think.

As with so many of these discussions there is no 'right' or 'wrong' way. Some 'splitters' add nothing to a Source Citation, others add something.

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
I will also add that its my understanding that the majority of new users take the product out of the box and use it without any customisation, and without using the mailing list or fhug. That was certainly the case for me. I became a regular reader of the FHUG and KnowledgeBase because its content ...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
A level of hesitancy before making a first post to any forum is to be expected, especially when asking for help. Even if someone has been a regular reader of a forum's posts and has developed an understanding of the characteristics of regular contributors, the first-time poster is the newcomer to an...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
On the whole I agree that the proposed introduction of sub-forums to the General Usage Forum should help those users who experience difficulty with the current arrangement. I'm not sure that the proposed Plugin Discussions changes ('Using Plugins' and 'Plugin Programming') would work as desired. Oth...
