Thanks for the quick replies, John and Nick.
Yes, that's what I had done. It's working well now.

Query when saving marriage entry
I have just started using AS to enter marriage data from parish registers. When I click on the save button, a dialog box appears asking if I wish to save the entry without confirming changes to the associated individual record (see screenshot). I'm not sure what this means, and can't see a menu item...

Re: FH7 - Text from Source - how to MODIFY table after initial save
Thanks for the tip Bill. That got me into the Modify Table option, but sadly there are no commands to adjust the widths of all columns in a table to just fit the longest text in each column, which is what the AS Fix button does. :( And thanks also to laz_gen. Having set that warning, I shouldn't hav...

Re: FH7 - Text from Source - how to MODIFY table after initial save
I have recently started using Ancestral Sources to enter English census data, with the Essentials CollectionTemplate. I have been using the Auto function to get a rich text table in the Text from Source box. But I've sometimes forgotten to click the "Fit" button before saving, so end up with excessi...

Re: Multiple Citations One Source
Thank you all for these responses. The generosity of experienced users in providing guidance to us novices here on the forum is much appreciated, and indeed was one of the things that attracted me to FH in the first place. I'm going with Lorna's approach for transcribed parish register information, ...

Re: Multiple Citations One Source
Thanks Lorna and Mike. The main purpose of my post was to find out what other more experienced users do in this situation, of having (say) the same residence information that's shown in multiple entries in the parish register - ie. whether to have one or many facts showing the same information. So L...

Re: Multiple Citations One Source
As a new user, I'm also still trying to come to grips with sources and citations. My present dilemma is how to record and document residence and occupation facts gleaned from parish registers. I'm using the register for a single parish as a Method 2 source, then giving further details in "Text from ...

Re: Modified Search Register from FH
For what it's worth, Brother's Keeper also has an option to produce Modified Register reports with numbering as described by Mervyn.

Hear hear!
I'll be a customer. As a new convert to FH, I've used Getting Started a great deal. I have been holding off upgrading to V7, so that what I see in the book matches what's on the screen.

Re: Importing from Brother's Keeper
Thanks Mark. Yes, I was aware of that problem with dates, so I did keep everything as text. I'd opened the GEDCOM file in Notepad first, then copied all of the rows into Excel as text. After using mainly text-related formulas to manipulate the relevant tag lines, I then copied the results into anoth...

Re: Importing from Brother's Keeper
In my previous post I offered to provide more feedback for Mike on the Fix Date Fields plugin. After delays unrelated to FH, I've finally cleaned up my dates. I haven't come across anything that would require a modification to the plugin. All of the date fields that had errors were due either to my ...

Re: Importing from Brother's Keeper
Thank you Mike I have run the Fix Dates plugin, as you suggested. It didn't help with the kind of date phrases I mentioned earlier, and some of the fixes didn't give the result I needed. It showed that I need to do some work to make all my dates GEDCOM compliant. I'm fairly new to genealogy, and inh...

Importing from Brother's Keeper
Hello I'm converting to Family Historian from Brother's Keeper, and this is my first post. I'm puzzled that FH doesn't seem to allow for a period where the dates aren't precise. For example, I know my grandfather lived in Hawksburn from about 1940 to 1950. In BK the date field for Residence is c.194...
