Re: Cant figure out Ancestry Synchronization
I think "one way transfer" of data from FH to Ancestry is an easy to understand phrase. Also I would suggest making it clear that sources and media are not included, right up front, is a good idea.

Re: How to document DNA connections with FHv7
I am using a source title "DNA test match of {Name} with {Match}" [Name being how I have named the user in my tree. Match being the tester. This means I can easily look at an individual's DNA connector fact to see how many corroborating DNA matches there are and who they are with. OOOH! T...

Re: How to document DNA connections with FHv7
I'm definitely interested in this discussion, and think I am on the "it's a source" train of thought. Mostly. I haven't been recording any DNA test content as yet, but want to, since I want FH to be my main repository of genealogy conclusions. Here's my thinking: * The DNA test is an event...

Re: Short Title for Source in Automatic Source Citation Pane?
I would LOVE to have it be the short title. I tend to click into the field and start typing to use "autosearch" and I really want it to be the short title rather than the full title.

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms
Thanks all! Apparently I wasn't missing a magical feature, just misunderstood some of the screenshots here. I was hoping maybe the media tab could show "fact media" like the notes tab shows "fact notes", but it only shows media attached at the individual level. Since I don't atta...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms
Could you show me what you mean, please? I also need some help with what seems a basic FH feature. The media tab for me only shows the media that is linked to the person. Usually just a headshot. I don't see any of the media attached to the person's facts, any media attached to events on which the ...

Re: Can Census Local Note include ALL Names and Relationships?
There are many things about TNG that are not to my liking, but for now it's "good enough" as a public view of my data. That thread with the back and forth about witnesses was kind of crazy, I read it a while back and just decided to move on to another topic. Yikes. I think now that GEDCOM ...

Re: Can Census Local Note include ALL Names and Relationships?
Gracious offer. As always Mike, you go above and beyond the call of duty. For me though, I wouldn't want any major rewriting done in the export. I'm trying desperately to simplify and streamline, and to be satisfied with "good enough" on a lot of things so that I can spend time consolidati...

Re: Can Census Local Note include ALL Names and Relationships?
What I'm looking for is a way to enter the data once (using AS) and then have it viewable by others (TNG) in a way that provides them maximum information with minimum effort. I've been interested to see if using AS could benefit me, as I do my census work and clean up what I have. Initially I assume...

Can Census Local Note include ALL Names and Relationships?
I have just about come around to agreeing that each individual should have their own Census Fact rather than using a shared event with the HOH as the principal (something I've done from day 1 with TMG starting in a prior century). I'm quite interested in using AS to help me re-do all of my census pr...

Re: Kent Family History Society (KFHS) copyright breach!
I love nothing more than getting distracted by a novel concept/problem and learning about how jerks turn nice things into steaming piles of garbage. So, obviously, I had to look into this. It had never occurred to me that people would do this. Found a classic of the genre - no image, not much to go ...

Re: Question on image metadata - date + keywords
I will add that not all image software conforms to the standards published by IPTC. I'd love to find just one that DOES conform to the standards! Ever since I decided many many years ago to use the standards to annotate my family photos, I've had to tweak and manipulate this way and that way to acc...

Re: Question on image metadata - date + keywords

Bummer. Thanks for letting me know. I guess I'll export to csv then open in LibreOffice Calc and summarize/count that way. At least FH can get me halfway there!
Appreciate the help.

Query Help Request: List of Cemeteries with count of times used
I feel like I'm kind of close to getting this query built, but my brain is just not taking me that final step. What I want: List of cemeteries with a count of times they are used, so I can add the "popular" cemeteries manually to my TNG website. I do not use the Address records hack, all p...

I'm so happy to see this! Your philosophy of Simple Citations makes so much sense to me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

'over-using' the Shared Roles functionality in RM. I understand now! And now I'm thinking maybe I've been UNDER-using the shared roles functionality. Note to self: add "informant" to death fact when I have the death certificate - that's USEFUL stuff because it puts the informant in the de...

Re: Should I Eliminate Most Witness Facts?
I've been using witnesses on facts since my TMG days, they carried over into RM, and carried over into FH. I have no intention of ever not using witnesses, and GEDCOM7 now supports the concept with an official structure, so the future is bright on that front! Your RM witnesses should have come into ...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Has there been any change in status on this concern? I've used witnesses on events to great advantage ever since I was a TMG user, it's really a vital feature to me, and it's sad that TNG gets close-but-no-cigar on handling of these events. The TNG import of the gedcom file obviously creates the eve...

Can't thank you enough for this. Now I can actually use the "title" field in the filter are on the media records page!

Must be something wrong. If I select to run prompted, the popup shows the exact right title YAY! I cancel out because I have 1104 media files and am not going to step through each one. I run automatic, the window tells me plugin completed, 1104 titles updated. All seems good. But exactly zero titles...
