Bad Habit caught up with me
40+ years ago when software was not nearly developed as it it is today, I made a habit of capitalizing surnames. So no matter the capitalize surname option setting in FH7 I always see capitals. I have come to dislike the look especially for O'Donnell, McIntosh etc. With a data base of 25,000 names i...

Any experiences with Crossover V 21? Is there any substantial improvement? I only have V20 but will upgrade if there are many benefits.

Re: Notation meaning
Gentlemen,
Thanks for the assistance. Yes this is reference to the Towneley of Towneley Hall near Burnley.
I clearly missed the clue in the PDF. I will give those links a hit and see what I can find.
Ive visited your fine land 3 times, now I have a reason to come back!

Notation meaning
Well, I've made my way across the pond in my family history and I'm having to explore some Great Britain references. Can anyone explain the meaning of the notation in the last set of brackets? " [CT f 271] An entail by Gilbert de la Legh, son of Michael, in 1321, which shows Gilbert, Richard and Lau...

Re: FH7 through Crossover will not load
Am I understanding this thread correctly, FH 7.0.3 and CrossOver 20.x running on BIG SIR 11.2.3 is working correctly? I have Windows on a desktop and my primary genealogy machnine, but like the ability to run FH 7 on my apple laptop when away from home. I can take a loss of specific functions on the...

Thanks Jane and Mike,
Back-up made and V 1.3 ran fine. Looks good I'll keep checking more individuals over the next few days.

Re: Note field questions
Is "Clean Up Notes" working with v. 7? When I run it I get an error message.
[String "C:\programdata\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Pl...]:188:attempt to index a nil value (global 'iup'). No changes have been made to the data records.
Any insights?

Re: Note field questions
Interesting, I cut and pasted repeatedly the same text into a local notes field and got to 383 pages and 182,230 words without any issue.
I bet there is an offending character in the note with issues. Now to see if I can find it.....

Re: Note field questions
Thanks Mike. I will run the plug-in. I was missing some important info as I was scrolling thru my ancestors, since I was looking for something in the note field shown on the main tab but only recently became aware that linked notes were not showing. I was aware I could see more on the Notes tab, but...

Note field questions
A couple of Note field questions. I see when I imported from FTM back in December, that my "notes", I know there can be notes for many of the data fields, were imported as 'linked', shown in the image "Note Record 1 link" (sorry the place-in line feature is not working correctly.) While new notes in...

Making use of Flags
I seem to be missing something, although I have searched forum topics and the KB. Lets say I set a flag for the immigrant ancestor. Can I then use the T/F value of that flag to see that information when working in FH? Can I for example set a text color for the name, or Set a background color in a pr...

Re: adding citations to notes
Mike, That method adds a whole note citation. I was wanting a shortcut to add a footnote in line. I do realize that the footnote will not export to other products. So I'm getting married to this product. I don't change often, once ca 2000 from an early Mac product to FTM and now. Its a lot of work t...

adding citations to notes
Does anyone know of a shortcut to adding a citation to an individual Note. The citation portion of the Fact pane provides options for copying a citation and then pasting it for use with other facts. The Copied material sits on a citation clipboard, it would be nice to have a shortcut to insert the c...

Adding Citation information to Templated Sources
Caveat: I have been doing genealogy for 30 years but I've been using Family Historian for 30 days. I don't have the experience most of you have with open file formats and the ability to run some code. The last thing I programmed was in Fortran! There have been a couple of recent post regarding the u...

Re: FH7, Narrative Report, citation placement
Thanks again for both your help.
Very beneficial exchange. I have a couple of days left on my Trial but I like what I see enough to make the purchase and carry-on. It is clear the program is above the rest but it will take many of us slugging away to understand it all.

but he wouldn't have the problem if he started from scratch with a templated source and entered the page number in the Page_Etc field. Re: FH7, Narrative Report, citation placement
Lorna, I don't think so {Page_Etc} appears to be associated with the Source. For example, Book Title A, pages xxx to zzz. The Citation should be the specific page of that range thus the use of the {wherewithinsource} from the citation field. But I cannot seem to identify the field code, {wherewithin...

Re: FH7, Narrative Report, citation placement
Tatewise, Yes, I'm working my way thru the generic to template source change. This is one of my motivators for changing software, This and the ability to add citations to notes and structure to what is a massive pile of text. I have found that a right click on the highlighted source in the Source Re...

Re: FH7, Narrative Report, citation placement
Thank you for the explanation, now to get me on course. The Citation window sidebar has three sections: Footnote: Short Footnote Bibliography. The example and format of the Footnote section is as follows: Rev. Horace Edwin Hayden, Virginia Genealogies, A Genealogy of the Glassell Family of Scotland ...
