Re: Ancestry's "Historical Newspapers, Birth, Marriage, & Death Announcements, 1851-2003"
Adrian - my last idea. While you are logged into your Ancestry account click on Mike Tate’s URL. This brings up the search results page for “John”. At the top left of the page, in the search area, click on the pencil icon to edit the search. Delete “John” and add your specific search criteria. Refre...

Re: Ancestry's "Historical Newspapers, Birth, Marriage, & Death Announcements, 1851-2003"
Adrian. I offer a possible glimmer of hope. First, click on the URL link in Mike Tate's post. Then follow Steps 1 to 3 in the attachment, inputting your search criteria. Hopefully, a hyperlink will appear at Step 3. If you can open the hyperlink in your Ancestry account, or Ancestry Library Edition,...

Re: A plea for Updated V7 Video Tutorials Please please…please
Des, I’d like to go back to your original post and offer thoughts on how to proceed. Three areas were concerning you: 1. Videos I think the video tutorial aspect has been covered by knowledgeable and experienced FHUG members in earlier posts. I reckon Calico Pie are best placed to produce, or sub co...

Re: What are good FH7 and iOS app combinations?
Media associated with facts, sources etc in Family Historian is attached to the same facts & sources in GedView and is viewable in GedView.

Re: What are good FH7 and iOS app combinations?
All of this seems pretty complicated to me. As mentioned above my recommended low cost solution for iOS users is GedView. It works with bog standard GEDCOM and thereby avoids the complications and workarounds associated with proprietary files. It doesn’t require USBs, Cloud, Dropbox, intermediate co...

Re: What are good FH7 and iOS app combinations?
Based on personal usage: 1. As mentioned above, for a freebie, Roots Magic's iOS App is good and worth a try to see if it does everything you need. 2. At less than a fiver, in my opinion GedView is a really great option. It's mature and regularly updated. No trial version. Follow the link from the i...

Re: On the fence FH7
PP - I totally agree with you. The new way of working (DEA/Templates) has been implemented in software by Calico Pie. In my opinion they, not FHUG members, are best placed to explain to Users how the new process works, end-to-end, using real-world, genealogical examples. Helen - Thanks. I have no pr...

Re: On the fence FH7
I'm still in the dark! My testing of the FH7 trial version agrees precisely with Nick’s second posting on this topic. However, the way in which FH7 and the Data Entry Assistant (DEA) handles Citations is still unclear. I don’t believe the foregoing posts or the Help file or the Knowledge Base pin do...

Re: On the fence FH7
The image is required to be attached to the Citation, not the Source. I am not requiring a Citation to a different Source. As a Source Lumper my (say) 1881 Census is the Source to which I wish to add as many Citations as are needed. The key point I made is that the dummy Census Source Records (1881 ...

Re: On the fence FH7
PP - Like you I’ve not been persuaded to upgrade yet. To find out whether I should I’m testing the FH7 Trial Version using the FH7 Sample Project in a standalone setup, so as not to affect my FH6 datasets. First off I tried to get to grips with the Template/Data Entry Assistant approach to entering ...

Re: Time Lines
Re Jerry's second post. The Vertex42 website has a variety of Timeline templates, some for sale but many are free. There are step-by-step explanations to construct many templates. Their template, which does what you are looking for, is "Time Period Comparisons", scroll down a little on thi...

Re: Removing unneeded broken media links
Mike - I'm happy with the resolution on the plugin, and the proposed workaround. Many thanks.
Also, grateful for your efforts in producing the Plugin Variant - which definitively pinned down the issue. Kind Regards.

Re: Removing unneeded broken media links
Well done Mike, I think you are on to something. Your Plugin Variant produced an error message: Plugin Variant Error Message.png Looking at my Media Folder I've discovered 2 Media Files with an "apostrophe". One produces the above error; the other doesn't. The files names include: a. St Ma...

Re: Removing unneeded broken media links
Thank you Mike. Responding to your questions: 1. My project files are in the default FH structure. The "problem" media file is in the FH Media Folder with all of my other Media files. 2. Not sure what you mean by folder path %. I'm using the default folders set up by FH when I first instal...

Thank you for the FHUG welcome, Mike.
I did as requested. Everything in Property Box seems normal. Screenshot of Plugin Result Set and Properties Box attached. The Links tab in the Properties Box lists 3 Links.

Re: Removing unneeded broken media links
Prompted by this discussion thread I used the above plugin to check for broken media links in my FH project. One file was listed in the Result Set, but I wasn't sure what to do next. So I used the Tools menu, selected External File Links... , then scrolled down the list of Files. All of the media fi...
